    摘要: Methods and systems for twisted pair telephone line diagnostics based on patterns of line data occurring over time. An observed data distribution is classified as periodic or based on modeled distributions previously determined to correspond to a known line activity, fault type, or fault location. A disruption or parameter value pattern is classified through statistical inference of operational and performance data collected from the line. Where the disruption and/or parameter value(s) correlate with a time the customer is at the customer premises, an inference is made that the line fault causing the disruption is more likely at the CPE than at the Central Office. Where the disruption distribution is classified as being a result of human activities initiated on the line, a fault condition associated with the activity is inferred. Where a disruption pattern is correlated with human initiated plain old telephone service (POTS), a micro-filter problem is inferred for the line.

Therefore, when a faulty CO port is checked out, it can be replaced by the normal port inside the un-faulty device so as to detect the initial CPE peripherally connected the faulty port, thus it can be decided whether the faulty port is caused by the port itself or by the user end. The device and method can rapidly locate and judge the port fault without additional private testing system, therefore reduces the cost.

    A method according to the invention further comprises the steps of:
    - instructing a user (18) of said in-house access plant to manipulate in-house equipment through an automated and interactive communication session (33),
    - determining timing information (t1,t2,t3) for each manipulation (m1,m2,m3) that is carried out,
    - performing remote quality measurements over said in-house access plant while said in-house equipment are being manipulated,
    - identifying from said timing information a particular manipulation (m3) that is time-correlated with a substantial change (60) in measured quality,
    thereby identifying a particular piece of in-house equipment (15) that has been manipulated and in the neighborhood of which said defect is located.
    The present invention also relates to an analysis tool (42) such as a network analyzer, a communication unit (41) such an intelligent voice responder or a web server, and to a diagnostic system (40).

    摘要: Zur Leitungsdiagnose eines Bussystems (10) nach dem Prinzip der Reflexionsmessung durchläuft ein von einem Bustreiber (2) ausgesendetes Signal (S I ) parallel zwei Verzögerungsglieder 5a,5b. Ein auf einer Busleitung (7) erzeugtes Reflexionssignal (S R ) wird an einen Komparator (8) einerseits direkt und andererseits nach Durchlaufen der beiden Verzögerungsglieder (5a,5b) geführt und infolge des dabei am Komparator (8) entstehenden Differenzsignals detektiert. Eine zur Durchführung des Verfahrens vorgesehene Vorrichtung umfasst einen Diagnoserepeater (1) mit einer Messschaltung (4) nach Art einer Gabelschaltung mit zwischen dem Bustreiber (2) und der Busleitung (7) einem mit einem Abschlusswiderstand (6) beschalteten ersten Verzögerungsglied (5a) und mit einem mit der Busleitung (7) verbundenen zweiten Verzögerungsglied (5b). Die Verzögerungsglieder (5a,5b) sind ausgangsseitig mit mindestens einem gemeinsamen Komparator (8) zum Erkennen von Reflexionen auf der Busleitung (7) verbunden.
