The invention is directed to a method including the steps of providing at least one layer of unlaminated elastin or unlaminated elastin-based materials or unlaminated tropoelastin materials. Then, the unlaminated elastin or unlaminated elastin-based materials or unlaminated tropoelastin materials is subjected to heating and pressing steps. The pressing step of the present invention is preferably conducted in the presence of steam. The laminated elastin or laminated elastin-based materials or laminated tropoelastin materials preferably comprises a multi-layer composite material. Typically, the step of adhering with an adhesive material the laminated elastin or laminated elastin-based materials or laminated tropoelastin materials is employed in order to achieve a water-tight engagement with the tissue substrate. A biogradable cyanocrylate glue is generally used in order to achieve quick and easy way to secure the patch in place and provide watertight fusion instantly. Preferably, the adhesive material comprises an alkoxy alkyl cyanoacrylate material.

The present invention is directed to a method of producing methylated hydroxypropylcellulose (m-HPC). By controlling the degree of methylation, one can manipulate the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of the m-HPC polymer to below room temperature and thereby stabilize the polymer in water above about 30 DEG C. The present invention is also directed to binder compositions, fibrous substrates, water-dispersible products and thermoformable products containing the m-HPC polymer.

Composite pressure sensitive hydrophilic adhesive, permeable for water vapor and losing its adhesivness in contact with liquid water, is particularly suitable for temporary glueing to the body surface for medical purposes. The composite is a gelled mixture of: (a) a water swellable, water insoluble polymer, soluble in polar water-miscible solvents boiling at atmospheric pressure at temperatures higher than 100 DEG C. as well as in their mixtures with minor amounts of water, (b) a hydrophilic water swellable polymer, insoluble in water as well as in polar water-miscible solvents boiling at atmospheric pressure at temperatures higher than 100 DEG C., and (c) a polar water-miscible innocuous solvent boiling at atmospheric pressure at temperatures higher than 100 DEG C., if desired mixed with a minor amount of water. A feature of the composite pressure sensitive hydrophilic adhesive of the invention is that the separate polymers (a) and (b) are replaced by a non-crosslinked copolymer of hydrophilic and hydrophobic monomers, only partially soluble in the component (c) but swellable therein.

Beschrieben werden rieselfähige feinkörnige Trockenpulver auf Basis einer wasserlöslichen und/oder wasserquellbaren Kombination von nichtionogenen Celluloseethern und getrockneten Redispersionspolymeren gewünschtenfalls in Abmischung mit weiteren Hilfsstoffen mit und/oder ohne Klebkraft. Die neuen Trockenpulvern kennzeichnen sich durch eine Kornstruktur, die geschlossene Kerne der nichtionogenen Celluloseether aufweist, die von einer Hülle des Redispersionspolymeren umfaßt und mit dieser haftfest verbunden sind. In einer weiteren Ausführungsform betrifft die Erfindung das Verfahren zur Herstellung dieser neuen rieselfähigen Trockenpulver, das sich dadurch kennzeichnet, daß man die nichtionogenen Celluloseether als Pulver mit der wäßrigen Polymerdispersion vermischt und dabei die Temperatur der wäßrigen Phase wenigstens beim Trübungs- bzw. Flockungspunkt der nichtionogenen Celluloseether oder darüber hält und unter diesen Bedingungen das wäßrige Stoffgemisch der Sprühtrocknung unterwirft. Die neuen Kombinationsmaterialien eignen sich in breiter Anwendung als Klebstoffe und/oder Bindemittel mit verbesserten Eigenschaften.
