A process for recovering butadiene from a C 4 fraction is disclosed. The process may include: contacting a mixed C 4 stream comprising butane, butene, and butadiene, with a solvent comprising an organic solvent and water in a butadiene pre-absorber column to recover an overheads fraction comprising at least a portion of the butane, butene, and water, and a first bottoms fraction comprising the organic solvent, butadiene, and at least a portion of the butene; and feeding the first bottoms fraction to a butadiene extraction unit to recover a butene fraction, a crude butadiene fraction, and a solvent fraction.

The invention deals with a method for preparing a nitrogen-depleted hydrocarbon feedstock (315, 412, 514, 614, 714, 718, 814, 822) having (i) an initial boiling point comprised between 0°C and +180°C and a final boiling point comprised between 30°C and 250°C, and (ii) an olefin content higher than 5 weight %, by contacting a hydrocarbon feedstock starting material (310, 313, 410, 411, 510, 512, 610, 612, 710, 712, 713, 810, 812, 813) with a clay sorbent material in a reaction vessel (33,43,53,63,73,73,83,83), wherein the nitrogen-depleted hydrocarbon feedstock (315, 412, 514, 614, 714, 718, 814, 822) has a total nitrogen/nitrile ratio (ppm/ppm) comprised between 1 and 5. Additional purification section allows improved units working time and lower maintenance.

A process to increase the capacity of the adsorbent in a normal paraffin adsorption separation system is presented. A tertiary flush stream is used to improve the capacity of the simulated moving bed system by flushing residual raffinate from the feed transfer line. The flushing removes residual raffinate containing desorbent that competes with the adsorption of normal paraffins from the feedstream. The flush stream is a material that will displace fluid in the column, but will not enter the pores of the adsorbent.

Methods, compositions, devices and kits having a novel chromatographic material are provided herein for separating and identifying organic molecules and compounds, for example molecules and compounds containing electron rich functional groups such as carbon-carbon double bonds. The methods, compositions, and kits include a metal-thiolate chromatographic medium (MTCM) with a sulfur-containing functional group or a metal-selenolate chromatographic medium (MSCM) comprising a selenium-containing functional group covalently attached to a support medium, such that the sulfur-containing functional group or selenium-containing functional group is bound to at least one metal atom. The MTCM and/or MSCM has affinity and specificity to compounds having one or more carbon-carbon double bonds, and performs a highly efficient and rapid separation of samples yielding non-overlapping peaks of purified materials compared to traditional media.

The present invention relates to a process allowing the tuning of the gasoline/diesel balance by converting an initial feedstock containing olefins from 4 to 20 carbon atoms using a crystalline catalyst with reduced diffusional limitations. The process comprises: processing a feedstock stream containing olefins from 4 to 20 carbon atoms with or without the presence of an aromatic containing stream, contacting said stream(s) with a catalyst at conditions effective to oligomerize a least a portion of the olefins and eventually alkylate at least a portion of the aromatics, wherein the catalyst is a crystalline compound with micro/mesoporous structure chosen among crystalline aluminosilicates, crystalline aluminophosphates, crystalline silico-aluminophosphates, crystalline zeolites, or the catalyst is a composite material comprising at least 20% wt of at least one of the above mentioned crystalline compounds, and wherein the mesoporous volume of the crystalline compound is at least 0.22 ml/g.
