    摘要: A bias circuit for generating a virtual reference voltage is described. The bias circuit may bias a switching device configured to switch a switching device output between a first and second supply voltage. The bias circuit includes a bias stage coupled between the first supply voltage rail and the second supply voltage rail. The bias stage has a bias stage output configured to output a virtual reference voltage value having a value between the first and second supply voltage. The bias circuit further includes a voltage follower coupled to the bias stage. The voltage follower is configured to output the virtual reference voltage. The bias circuit further includes a first charge pump coupled to the voltage follower output; and at least one of a second charge pump coupled to the bias stage voltage output, and a switchable buffer coupled to the bias stage voltage output and the voltage follower output.

    摘要: An on-chip interface circuit (7; Fig. 2) located between the chip's power supply pin (15) and its internal circuitry (9) senses the current load (ILOD) of the internal circuitry and provides a supplemental current sink (IXS) so that total current demand (,SUPPLY) seen at the power supply pin is substantially constant despite the internal circuitry's variable load. Sensing of the internal load is done by a sensor stage (200) with two parallel branches (Il; 12), each branch having a resistor (Rl; R2), a sense transistor (M3; M6), and a current mirror device (M4, M5; M7, M8), which together produce a voltage drop as a control voltage output (VsENsE) which relates the internal load to a constant reference current (IREF). The supplemental current sink is in the form of a transistor (M9) operating below saturation in its linear region and whose gate is coupled to receive the control voltage output of the sensor stage.

    摘要: A method according to the invention includes the steps of inferring the peak current through the inductor (303) as a function of input voltage and inductor charge time, and deriving the current available to the load based upon the flyback voltage during discharge of the inductor (303). In terms of apparatus, in a switching power supply of the type wherein a switching device (302) is used to charge an inductor (303) that discharges to a load, the invention provides devices arranged for detecting output current without the need for a resistor or other component in series with the load. In the preferred embodiment, these devices include electrical components operative to generate a signal indicative of peak inductor current, and a switch (302) for switching the signal to provide a waveform, the integral of which is proportional to peak inductor current multiplied by the duty cycle of the discharge of the inductor (303).
