The drive means is preferably configured to index the dose indicator. The dose indicator/counter has a small number of components yet is effective, reliable and compact.

In an embodiment, the dose indicator comprises a chassis element having a viewing portion, a display element located within the chassis element, a resilient deformable element, and an indexing element having an axis, translation of the indexing element along its axis from a first position to a second position causing deformation of the resilient deformable element in the same direction as translation of the indexing element resulting in generally greater displacement of portions of the resilient deformable element nearer to the axis relative to portions thereof further from the axis, the displacement of the portions of the resilient deformable element in the same direction as translation of the indexing element inducing indexing of the display element from a current position to a subsequent position relative to the viewing portion of the chassis element.

Disclosed herein is a dose counter (118) for counting doses of medicament dispensed by or remaining in a metered-dose inhaler. The dose counter comprises: a rotatably mounted gear wheel (130) having a circular arrangement of ratchet teeth (132); a display coupled to the gear wheel, the display having a visible array of dose counting indicia indexable in response to rotary motion of the gear wheel; and an actuator mechanism having a driver (152) for rotatably driving the gear wheel in response to the dispensation of a medicament dose, the driver being arranged to engage the ratchet teeth of the gear wheel. The actuator mechanism comprises a pivotally mounted lever or linkage having an input portion. The lever or linkage is arranged to amplify a linear stroke at the input portion such that a linear stroke of the driver exceeds the linear input stroke. By amplifying the stroke in this way, the risk of undercounting due to insufficient stroke length may, be reduced.

An atomizer (1), in particular an MDI, comprising a counting device (12) is proposed. By way of a guide track (27) and an inclined plane (28) and an associated guide element (23), an axial movement (A) is partially converted to a rotational movement for driving a counter ring (14) when the atomizer (1) is activated, wherein an annular and rigid drive element (17) comprising an axial cogging (18) is used. This allows simple and functionally secure setup, wherein even incomplete activations are counted.
