Abstract: An ultrasonic air data system (100) can include a pole (103) having a length (103) longer than a boundary layer thickness (105) of a boundary layer flow (107) such that at least a distal end of the pole is configured to extend outwardly from an aircraft surface to be at least partially outside of the boundary layer flow. The system can include a transmitter (111) disposed on or in the pole at or near the distal end of the pole such that the transmitter is located at least partially outside of the boundary layer flow when in use, wherein the transmitter is configured to output a transmitter signal. The system can include one or more receivers (115) disposed downstream of the pole as defined by the boundary layer flow and configured to receive the transmitter signal.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to an array of independently-controllable laser diode bars 44A - 44Z configured to scan a linearly-structured beam of light upon a scene. Each of the independently-controllable laser diode bars is distributed along a common axis. Each of the independently-controllable laser diode bars is configured to emit a beam of light in an emission direction D E orthogonal to the common axis. Each of the independently-controllable laser diode bars can be energized in a sequence, thereby scanning the scene in the direction of the common axis. Linear projector 22C has thus electronic scanning capability. Linear projector 22C includes an array of laser diode bar 72 that includes rows of laser diodes 44A - 44Z. Each of the laser diodes in a particular row 44A - 44Z is aligned along a fast-axis direction with the other laser diodes in that particular row 44A - 44Z. Each of the laser diode rows 44A - 44Z can be independently energized in turn. In the depicted embodiment laser diode row 44N is energized. Each of the laser diode rows 44A - 44Z are configured to generate a linear beam 32C of light that is collimated and/or focused by cylindrical lenses 45A - 45N, 46 and 50 in a fast-axis direction D FA . The linear beam emitted by each row of laser diodes 44A - 44Z is then diverged in a slow axis direction DSA, by cylindrical lens 48. For example, the laser diode rows 44A - 44Z can be energized in a sequence from top row 44A to bottom row 44Z, so as to generate a corresponding sequence of linear beams focused at different angles of elevation with respect to linear projector 22C.

The insert includes a tip portion making up a tip of the air data probe, an end portion (38), and a body portion extending between the tip portion and the end portion. The body portion includes a groove (46). The portion of the heater is positioned within the groove. The outer shell surrounds the body portion of the insert and the portion of the heater. The tip weld is located between the tip portion of the insert and a first end of the outer shell, and the braze is located between the end portion of the insert and a second end of the outer shell. The portion of the heater is hermetically sealed between the insert and the outer shell.

Abstract: A Frequency Modulated (FM) discriminator circuit comprising a phase output, wherein the phase output of the FM discriminator circuit is compared to a phase reference signal. Abstract: Inspecting an air data probe for physical degradation includes generating a silhouette (64) of the air data probe (12) based on an identification of the air data probe to be inspected. The silhouette is simultaneously displayed with an image (66) of the air data probe produced by a camera (18), and the displayed image of the air data probe is caused to conform to the silhouette on the display (20). An image of the air data probe is captured while the displayed image of the air data probe conforms to the silhouette on the display. The captured image is analyzed to identify physical degradation of the air data probe. A maintenance recommendation for the air data probe is generated based on the identified physical degradation.
