摘要： An absorbent material suitable for use as a medical or hygienic absorbent and comprises a non-woven fibre sheet having dense surface layers (10) and between these layers a less dense region where most of the fibres extend in the plane of the sheet. Transversely extending fibres (16) help to bind the material, the fibres also being bonded to some extent by a hot melt bonding material, e.g. core/sheath-type bi-component fibres. The material is made by forming a blend of fibres, including a minor weight of hot melt fibres, by cross-lapping a plurality of layers (14) to form a web, subjecting the web to needling at low punch density with penetration through the web, thereafter subjecting surface regions (10) of the web to higher punch density needling to form the dense surface layer (10) at each face from the web. The web is then heated, e.g. by high temperature air, to soften the hot melt material and to cause it to bond adjacent fibres while retaining its fibrous form and without significant shrinkage of the web as a whole.

Lorsqu'il se produit une différence entre ces deux valeurs, un affichage (30) peut indiquer la différence, afin qu'elle soit corrigée par l'opérateur, ou l'on peut utiliser un organe motorisé pour déplacer automatiquement le bloc talon (32) jusqu'à la position correcte. Dans une variante, on utilise également un organe de verrouillage qui est libéré dès qu'une différence se produit, ce qui permet à l'opérateur d'ajuster en hauteur la position du bloc talon (32), l'organe de verrouillage (50) reprenant automatiquement sa fonction. La commande est organisée de sorte qu'il soit impossible de commencer un cycle d'opérations tant qu'une différence est détectée.

摘要： For applying adhesive to a shoe bottom an applicator (708) is provided which comprises a plurality of fingers (732) spring-urged towards the work and end portions thereof providing an adhesive-applying surface (736) to which adhesive is supplied via tubes (738) to outlets in said end portions. The applicator is capable of rotation about an axis which passes through the adhesive-applying surface (736) and in addition, the applicator can tilt about a further axis (P) which intersects said axis of rotation at the adhesive-applying surface. Drive means is also provided for effecting relative lengthwise, heightwise and widthwise movement between a shoe support (18) and a tool holder (670) by which the applicator is supported. For controlling the flow of adhesive a valve (744) is provided which is pneumatically operated and also has a suck-back feature. Moreover, the arrangement of the adhesive supply parts (740 - 752) and the supply of air under pressure (772 - 776) is such that the applicator can be rotated through 360° or more without the need for thereafter reversing the direction of rotation, e.g. in order to unwind any flexible connections.

The shoe is held by auxiliary clamp means (184) during this changeover.

摘要： The backpart of a shoe is moulded by a heel band (240) and at the same time the lasting marginal portions of the upper are wiped over and pressed by wiper plates (270) against correspondding marginal portions of the insole, so-called bedding pressure being applied by the upthrust of the shoe support (10). The moulding and bedding times are independently settable, and at the end of the bedding time, and while mould clamping pressure is still being applied, the last pin (18) is retracted and the heel band (240) and wiper plates (270), still holding the shoe, are swung to an out-of-the-way position, the shoe being released, at the end of the moulding time, into a receptacle (346). Meanwhile the operating locatility is free for a further shoe to be loaded. A configuration of two such machines side-by-side with a common central receptacle (346) is also described.
