摘要:
A wireless time division duplex communication system using code division multiple access has a base station and user equipments. The system communicates using communication bursts. Each communication burst has a unique channelization code and a midamble code. Each midamble code is mapped to a set of at least one channelization code. For each communication burst to be transmitted in a time slot from the base station, the midamble code mapped to that burst's channelization code is determined. Communication bursts are generated and transmitted in the time slot. Each burst has the determined midamble code for its channelization code. The user equipment receives the bursts and determines each received midamble code. The user equipment determines the channelization codes of the transmitted communication bursts based on in part a result of the determining of each received midamble code.

A time division duplex method for determining whether to initiate handover of a mobile unit from a serving base station to a target base station, the method comprises receiving the broadcast channel (52) from the serving base station (BCHser); calculating (54) the serving base station received signal code power (RSCPser); receiving the broadcast channel (56) from the target base station (BCHtar); calculating the target base station (58) received signal code power (RSCPtar); determining interference signal code power (60) for the serving base station (ISCPser); determining interference signal code power (60) for the target base station (ISCPtar); calculating (62) RSCPser/ISCPser; calculating (62) RSCPtar/ISCPtar; and determining whether RSCPser/ISCPser is less than RSCPtar/ISCPtar, and if so, commencing handover (68) from the serving base station to the target base station.

A selected user equipment transmits a signature in a selected one of the common packet channel's time slots. The base station, in response to receiving the transmitted signature, selects a currently unused code, if available, out of a plurality of code associated with the access opportunity defined by the selected signature and selected time slot. The base station transmits an acknowledgment signal comprising an identifier of the selected code. The selected user equipment receives the acknowledgment signal. The selected user equipment and the base station communicate using the selected code.

A wireless communication method and system for controlling the current data bit rate of a radio link (RL) to maintain the quality of the RL. The system includes a core network (CN), a radio network controller (RNC) and at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The RL is established between the RNC and the WTRU. The RNC establishes a guaranteed data bit rate, a maximum data bit rate and a current data bit rate associated with the RL. When the RNC senses an event which indicates that the quality of the RL has substantially deteriorated, the RNC reduces the value of the current data bit rate. Then, in a recovery process, if a similar event does not occur during an established waiting period, the RNC restores the current data bit rate back to the maximum data bit rate.

A user equipment, UE, comprising means for taking a plurality of measurements based on a downlink quality, wherein each of the plurality of measurements is taken on a respective downlink resource of a plurality of downlink resources; means for deriving a first channel quality indication indicating a channel quality of the plurality of downlink resources; means for deriving a difference between the first channel quality indication and a channel quality indication for each of the plurality of downlink resources; and means for transmitting at least one report including the first channel quality indication and the plurality of difference indications.

In a wireless communication system including at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and at least one Node-B (NB), an activation or deactivation state is determined for each of a plurality of HARQ processes. A signal that includes the activation or deactivation state for each of the HARQ processes is transmitted to the WTRU. In response to receiving the signal, the WTRU activates or deactivates a particular HARQ process in accordance with the activation or deactivation state for each of the HARQ processes contained in the received signal. The activation of HARQ processes is considered for non-scheduled transmissions.

A method and system for improving responsiveness in exchanging management and control frames in a wireless local area network are disclosed. An initiator sends a frame (action, management, control or data frame) to a responder. Upon correctly receiving the frame, the responder sends a response frame to the initiator instead of directly sending an acknowledgement (ACK) packet. The responder preferably accesses the wireless medium to send the response frame in a short inter-frame spacing (SIFS). With this scheme, a long delay associated with having to contend for the wireless medium to send the response frame is avoided and therefore, the responsiveness and timeliness of the feedback mechanism is significantly enhanced. The response frame may be piggybacked on or aggregated with another packet.

A peer-to-peer communication system using a direct link setup (DLS) is disclosed. A mobile station (STA) establishes a direct communication link with another STA by sending a message requesting a DLS to an access point (AP), (i.e., a centralized controller). The AP may accept or reject the DLS request based on channel measurements. If the DLS request is accepted, the DLS is established such that the STAs may directly communicate with each other. An established DLS connection may be torn down by the AP sending a message including a DLS teardown request to one of the STAs, or based on channel measurements. The system may be an Ad hoc network comprising a plurality of STAs without an AP where each STA maintains a database of one-hop and two-hop STAs, and establishes a direct link to other STAs after informing neighboring STAs of an intention to establish a direct communication link.
