The invention relates to weather-resistant pearlescent pigments which have improved application properties and are based on a small glass plate that is coated with highly refractive metal oxides and a protective coating located on the top metal oxide layer. The inventive pigments are characterized in that the small glass plate has an average thickness of 50 to 500 nm. According to variant A, a metal oxide layer whose refractive index n exceeds 1.8 and which comprises TiO2 having a rutile concentration ranging from 80 to 100 percent by weight as well as a protective SiO2 coating are applied. According to variant B, a metal oxide layer whose refractive index n exceeds 1.8 and which comprises TiO2 having a rutile concentration ranging from 80 to 100 percent by weight as well as a protective coating containing a first protective layer with cerium oxide and/or cerium oxide hydrate and/or cerium hydroxide and a second protective SiO2 layer are applied. Additionally, an organic chemical surface coating is applied to the metal oxide layer of the protective coating of A or B. The invention further relates to a method for producing said pigments and the use thereof.

The present invention is in the field of security documents, more particularly in the field of security elements aimed to protect security documents against copying (illegal reproduction) and counterfeiting. It discloses a security element having a coating layer(s) which changes its visual appearance after irradiation with light, especially with UV light and reverts back to the original state within a few seconds. Security documents comprising said security element, as well as a method for producing said security element, are also disclosed.

The invention relates to a pigment composition which is essentially free of a binding agent and which has a powdery, non-dust producing form. Said pigment composition comprises the following components: at least 60 wt.- % of at least one pearly lustre pigment, 1 15 wt.- % of a non-ionic monomer wetting agent and/or a non-ionic wetting agent based on polysiloxane, 1 - 39 wt.- % of a solvent or solvent mixture, whereby the total of the individual components adds up to 100 wt. %. The invention also relates to a method for producing the pigment composition, in addition to the use thereof.

Die Erfindung betrifft Perlglanzpigmente umfassend ein weitgehend transparentes plättchenförmiges Substrat mit einer Dichte δ S und mindestens einer optisch wirksamen Beschichtung mit einer Dichte δ M , wobei das Substrat eine mittlere Größe d 50 von 3 bis 8 µm und eine mittlere Höhe h S von 40 bis 110 nm aufweist. Die Erfindung betrifft ferner eine Verfahren zur Herstellung der Perlglanzpigmente als auch deren Verwendung.

A method for deposition of rutile-type titanium dioxide, characterized in that it comprises depositing rutile-type crystals from a titanium-containing solution having a temperature of 55 to 85 DEG C and a pH of 1.3 or less through a neutralization reaction; and a substrate and a glass frake having the rutile-type titanium dioxide thus deposited. The method does not need heating intrinsically for preparing rutile-type titanium dioxide, which results in the simplification of the production process thereof and thus in the reduction of the production cost thereof, and further allows easy attachment of rutile-type titanium dioxide also to a substrate having low thermal stability.

The invention relates to pigment based on (multiple) coated platelet-shaped substrates comprising an outer layer which is obtained by treatment with a metal oxide/hydroxide and then a phosphate ester, or phosphonate, or a salt thereof, with the proviso that the phosphate ester, or phosphonate do not contain fluorine, to a method for producing said pigments and the use thereof. The outer layer provides a very good photo-stabilisation of the TiO2 coated platelet-shaped substrates, such as mica, combined with a good water resistance and an anti-yellowing performance.
