Optionally, the digital signal representing the recorded program can be deleted once the digital signal representing the scheduled program is recorded. An identifier is used to determine whether the scheduled program is the same as a recorded program. This means that if the attributes of the digital signal representing the scheduled program are considered to be more desirable than the attributes of the digital signal representing the recorded program, the scheduled program can be stored on a storage media instead of, or as well as, the recorded version of the program.

The method involves first issuing a request for display environment setting information to the digital TV using a predetermined channel of the communication cable and receiving the requested information from the digital TV using the predetermined channel once communications between the DVD player and the digital TV are initiated. The method then involves converting signals reproduced from a DVD based on the received display environment setting information such that the signals are compatible with the digital TV, and then outputting the converted signals to the digital TV using the communication cable.

An output controlling part is provided which outputs the control information added to the image as a control signal when reading the image from the storage part and outputting it. As a result, when 2D images and 3D images which are stored in a mixed manner are replayed, it can be determined whether an output image is a 2D image or a 3D image according to the control signal, so that a suitable image can be displayed according to an output end device.
