Bei dem Datenträger ist ein zusätzlicher programmierbarer Informationsträger, z.B. ein Chip, ein Hologramm oder ein Magnetstreifen, vorgesehen, der lösbar oder fest, extern zugänglich am Schutzmantel, z.B. am Kassetten- oder Diskettengehäuse, des Speichermediums angeordnet ist. Die Kopplung des Chips mit der Außenwelt, z.B. mit einer extern vorgesehenen Kontrolleinheit, erfolgt über eine entsprechende elektrische Kontaktierung oder über einen kontaktloses Transponder-Mechanismus. Bei einem Zugriff auf die auf dem Datenträger gespeicherten Nutzdaten werden auf dem zusätzlichen Informationsträger gespeicherte zweite Informationen herangezogen, um beispielsweise Zugriffsrechte bezüglich der ersten Informationen, oder mechanische oder elektrische Eigenschaften des Datenträgers selbst, zu berücksichtigen. Hierdurch kann die aktuelle Position eines sequentiellen Speichermediums zu jedem Zeitpunkt exakt festgehalten werden, ohne daß eine wiederholte Kalibrierung, beispielsweise durch Suchlauf zum Bandanfang oder Bandende, erforderlich ist. Auch kann der aktuelle Inhalt eines Datenträgers in der Weise gespeichert werden, daß bei Überschreiben von Informationen auf dem seqientiellen Medium ein Fortschreiben (Update) der neuen Organisation der Information im Chip erfolgt. Damit können nunmehr auch sequentiell organisierte Speichermedien fragmental betrieben werden. Insbesondere wird ein einfaches und schnelles Auffinden einer gewünschten Information auf dem sequentiellen Medium, d.h. einen Direktzugriff (Random Access), ermöglicht. Darüber hinaus lassen sich sogenannte "Hardware Keys" zum Schutz eines bestimmten Anwendungsprogramms, z.B. über einen "Dongle" oder "Dangle", einfacher realisieren. Schließlich können im Chip vorgesehene spezielle Funktionseinheiten Veränderungen an den Nutzdaten in Realzeit vornehmen.

A technique is provided for enabling an index to data recorded in a recording medium such as a cassette to be read out without mounting the recording medium on a reproduction apparatus to reproduce the data. When a cassette (100) is inserted into a compartment in a VTR (41), a switch in the VTR is pushed by a case of the cassette, detecting the insertion of the cassette into the compartment. At that time, a signal indicating the insertion of the cassette into the compartment is supplied to a microcomputer from the switch. Notified by the signal, the microcomputer issues a command to a reader/writer, requesting the reader/writer to read out information on data from a memory card mounted on the cassette for recording the data through an antenna. With the cassette located outside the compartment, on the other hand, the microcomputer issues a command to a reader/writer, requesting the reader/writer to read out the information from the memory card through another antenna.

This display apparatus comprises a loading portion for loading the recording medium cassette, a connector provided on the loading portion to be connected with the plurality of terminals, a reading device for reading the information from the storage device through the connector, and a display device for displaying the information read by the reading device. Simply connecting the plurality of terminals of the recording medium cassette to the connector of the recording/reproducing apparatus allows to display the recording information about the recording medium cassette, thus providing recorded contents of the recording medium cassette quickly and easily as well as facilitating retrieval and management of the recorded contents.

The present invention aims to make a casette adapter in which an S-casette (first casette) of the professional digital video format is housed and having a shape identical with an different-sized M-casette (second casette) operate without fail under a simple constitution, without accompanying any fear of damage on a tape. The invented casette adapter capable of housing an S-casette 2 comprises an adapter 1 whose shape is identical to an different-sized M-casette. Reels 5, 6 and a reel brake releasing member 7 of the S-casette 2 are exposed while the S-casette is mounted in the casette adapter. The adaptor 1 includes a rear door 12 capable of opening and closing. The rear door 12 comprises contacts 14 for reading identification signal by contacting the identification terminal of S-casette, wirings 16 for coupling the contacts 14 with an identification terminal 15 provided in a same location as that of M-casette and a lever 18 for opening/closing an anti-erasing window in linkage with the anti-erasing gear of S-casette 2.
