摘要: The present invention provides an alkaline battery which has high reliability and high cost performance and does not cause an internal short circuit resulting from gel leakage even when the filling densities of the positive and negative electrodes are reduced. In the alkaline battery, a positive electrode 2 contains manganese dioxide as a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode 3 is a gel negative electrode containing zinc as a negative electrode active material, a filling density of manganese dioxide in the positive electrode 2 is in a range of 2.31 to 2.45 g/cm 3 , a filling density of zinc in the negative electrode 3 is in a range of 1.49 to 1.65 g/cm 3 , and a ratio (h1/h2) between a height of the positive electrode 2 (h1) and a height of the negative electrode 3 (h2) is in a range of 0.96 to 1.06.

摘要: A positive electrode 2 and a negative electrode 3 are contained in a battery case 1 with a separator 4 interposed therebetween. The positive electrode 2 contains manganese dioxide and an alkaline electrolyte, and the negative electrode 3 is a gelled negative electrode containing zinc powder, a gelling agent, and an alkaline electrolyte. The zinc powder contains 15 % by mass or higher of fine powder with a particle size smaller than 200 mesh, and 10 to 35 % by mass of coarse powder with a particle size of 20 to 80 mesh, and has a specific surface area in the range of 0.025 to 0.080 m 2 /g.

摘要: A primary cell having an anode comprising lithium and a cathode comprising iron disulfide (FeS2) and carbon particles. The electrolyte comprises a lithium salt dissolved in a solvent mixture which contains 1,3-dioxolane and preferably 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone. A cathode slurry is prepared comprising iron disulfide powder, carbon, binder, and a liquid solvent. The mixture is coated onto a conductive substrate and solvent evaporated leaving a dry cathode coating on the substrate. The anode and cathode can be spirally wound with separator therebetween and inserted into the cell casing with electrolyte then added.

The lithium battery (1), due to said low-crystallinity manganese dioxide contained therein, has excellent storage characteristics at high temperatures of 100°C or higher, large-current discharge characteristics, large-current pulse discharge characteristics, low-temperature discharge characteristics, and like characteristics, and in addition, is cost advantageous.

When the manganese dioxide is subjected to X-ray powder diffraction measurement, a peak position of a diffraction plane with Miller indices of (110) is 20.5 degrees or more and 21.7 degrees or less and a ratio (I(130)/I(021)) of a peak intensity I (130) of a diffraction plane with miller indices (130) to a peak intensity I(021) of a diffraction plane with Muller indices of (021) is 0.1 or less.

摘要: A high performance lithium-sulfur battery cell (10) includes the following features: (a) a negative electrode (14) including a metal or an ion of the metal; (b) a positive electrode (18) comprising an electronically conductive material; and (c) a liquid catholyte (16) including a solvent and a dissolved electrochemically active material comprising sulfur in the form of a sulfide of the negative electrode metal or a polysulfide of the metal. Such battery cells are characterized by an energy density, calculated based upon a laminate weight, of at least 400 Watt-hours/kilogram when discharged at a rate of at least 0.1 mA/cm2. Cells meeting these criteria often find use as primary cells.
