摘要: The invention provides novel high-energy density and low-cost flow electrochemical devices incorporating solid-flow electrodes, and further provides methods of using such electrochemical devices. Included are anode and cathode current collector foils that can be made to move during discharge or recharge of the device. Solid-flow devices according to the invention provide improved charging capability due to direct replacement of the conventional electrode stack, higher volumetric and gravimetric energy density, and reduced battery cost due to reduced dimensions of the ion-permeable layer.

摘要: One aspect of the present invention provides a method comprising: manufacturing a sodium ion secondary cell having an anode and a cathode, the anode comprising a negative electrode active material comprising disordered carbon on an anode substrate, and the cathode comprising a comprising a nickel-containing sodium oxide positive electrode active material on a cathode substrate; and in a cycling phase, charging the cell to a first voltage; wherein the ratio of the mass of the negative electrode active material to the mass of the positive electrode active material is greater than 0.37 and is less than 1.2.

The cell includes a solid metallic anode, which is deposited over a suitable current collector substrate during the cell charging process. Several variations of compatible electrolyte are disclosed, along with suitable cathode materials for building the complete cell.

摘要: An intermediate temperature sodium-halogen secondary cell that includes a negative electrode compartment housing a negative, molten sodium-based electrode and a positive electrode compartment housing a current collector disposed in a highly conductive molten positive electrolyte. A sodium halide (NaX) positive electrode is disposed in a molten positive electrolyte comprising one or more AlX3 salts, wherein X may be the same or different halogen selected from Cl, Br, and I, wherein the ratio of NaX to AlX3 is greater than or equal to one. A sodium ion conductive solid electrolyte membrane separates the molten sodium negative electrode from the molten positive electrolyte. The secondary cell operates at a temperature in the range from about 80° C to 210° C.
