The present invention is directed to a mehtod for producing crude sialic acid, comprising hydrolysis of a delipidated egg yolk and a method for producing high purity sialic acid, which comprises desalting a solution containing sialic acid obtainable by hydrolyzing a delipidated egg yolk,, adsorbing sialic acid to an anion exchange resin and then eluting said sialic acid. The present invention makes it possible to produce and purify sialic acid from delipidated egg yolk on an industrial scale.

The present invention is directed to a limitedly enzyme-hydrolyzed polysaccharide obtained by reacting guar gum with β-mannanase, wherein not less than 80% of linear chains of mannose of said polysaccharide have a chain length of 30 to 200 units, a composition for biological regulatory function comprising an effective amount of said polysaccharide, and a method for its production. The polysaccharide of the present invention can be ingested without food palatability degradation even when added in large amounts and retains the high biological regulatory function of guar gum.

The polylactic acid-based resin composition containing an impact resistance enhancing agent for a polylactic acid-based resin of the present invention has excellent impact resistance properties, so that the resin composition can be suitably used in, for example, agricultural materials, food wrapping materials, and other wrapping materials, and the like.
