摘要: A novel optical film capable of readily vitrifying the tendency and state of liquid crystal alignment, excellent in the ability to retain the alignment state, and suitable for the application to optical elements. The film is produced from a liquid-crystal material containing as the essential ingredient a liquid-crystal polyester having structural units (A) and (B) as the essential unit, exhibiting a vitrified state at a temperature lower than the liquid-crystal transition point, and having a logarithmic viscosity number ( eta ) of 0.04-0.4 dl/g as measured at 30 DEG C in a phenol/tetrachloroethane solvent (60/40 by weight), wherein each X represents independently O or C=O; each Y represents independently a group selected from among F, Cl, Br and 1-4C alkyls; and n is 0 or 1.

摘要: A thermotropic liquid-crystal polymer characterized by being obtained by copolymerizing the trifunctional hydroxynaphthalenecarboxylic acid represented by the following general formula [I] and/or a reactive derivative thereof with other polymerizable monomer(s); [I] (wherein one of m and n is 1 and the other is 2) and a composition containing the polymer. The thermotropic liquid-crystal polymer or composition gives a molding having reduced anisotropy in mechanical strength and having excellent weld strength.

摘要: A liquid-crystal polyester resin characterized by containing monomer units derived from 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid and/or 2-hydroxynaphthalene-3,6-dicarboxylic acid in an amount of 1 to 5,000 mmol% based on all structural monomer units in the liquid-crystal polyester resin and by containing an alkali metal compound in an amount of 10 to 3,000 ppm, in terms of alkali metal amount, of all monomer units in the liquid-crystal polyester resin. The liquid-crystal polyester resin has satisfactory colorability, improved heat resistance, and satisfactory mechanical properties.

摘要: A multidimensional copolymer array of a plurality of copolymers, polymerized from at least two independently variable sets of monomers, is created. The homologous variations of the monomer series are selected to determine the effect of varying the structural features of the copolymer on at least one end-use property of the copolymer. Methods for determining the effects as a function of variation within the monomer series and identifying members having useful properties are also disclosed.

摘要: Bei einem kontinuierlichen Verfahren zur Herstellung aromatischer Polyester durch Polykondensation von 9,9-Bis (4-hydroxyphenyl)fluoren mit iso-Phthalsäurechlorid und/oder tere-Phthalsäuechlorid als Dicarbon-Säurehalogenid nach dem Zweiphasengrenzflächen-Polykondensationsverfahren, wird zunächst aus der wässerigen Phase, bestehend aus einer Lösung aus den Diphenolen, Alkalihydroxyd zur Bildung der Diphenolate und gegebenenfalls einem Phasentransferkatalysator in Wasser oder in einem Gemisch aus Wasser und einem organischen Lösungsvermittler mit einem organischen Lösungsmittel; kontinuierlich eine feine Voremulsion hergestellt, welche gemeinsam mit der die Säurechloridlösung bildenden organisch-flüssigen Phase eine Dispergiereinrichtung in Mengen zugeführt werden, daß die an der Polykondensationsreaktion teilnehmenden Verbindungen in der Dispergiereinrichtung im konstanten Verhältnis zueinander zur Bildung einer Reaktionsemulsion gemischt werden, welche danach nacheinander eine oder mehrere Dispergiereinrichtungen und/oder statische Mixer durchläuft, währenddessen die Polykondensation abläuft und beendet wird. Danach werden die Phasen getrennt und der gebildete Polyester durch Einleiten von Aceton aus der organischen Phase gefällt.
