A method of preparing an aromatic liquid crystalline polyester resin may include: acetylating a first monomer including an amino group by a reaction with a carboxylic acid anhydride; acetylating a second monomer including a hydroxyl group and not including an amino acid group with an additional carboxylic acid anhydride; and synthesizing an aromatic liquid crystalline polyester prepolymer by a condensation polymerization reaction of the acetylated first and second monomers with dicarboxylic acid. A method of preparing an aromatic liquid crystalline polyester resin compound may use the aromatic liquid crystalline polyester resin prepared according to the forgoing method.

A composition of matter comprising a polyester composition derived from: (i) greater than 80 mole percent of a diol derived from a disubstituted xylene glycol of the formula (I): wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently selected from the group consisting of aliphatic, aromatic, cycloaliphatic, sulfur containing compounds, amines and halogen; and (ii) a diacid is disclosed. Aromatic polyesters are made in a continuous process in an extruder or extruder-like apparatus by reacting at elevated temperatures dicarboxylic acids, aliphatic esters of aromatic diols, and optionally aliphatic esters of aromatic hydroxyacids in an extruder while removing byproduct aliphatic carboxylic acid. The resulting aromatic polyesters, especially thermotropic liquid crystalline aromatic polyesters, are useful as molding resins for a variety of uses, for example electronic and electrical parts.

A thermotropic liquid-crystal polymer characterized by being obtained by copolymerizing the trifunctional hydroxynaphthalenecarboxylic acid represented by the following general formula [I] and/or a reactive derivative thereof with other polymerizable monomer(s); [I] (wherein one of m and n is 1 and the other is 2) and a composition containing the polymer. The thermotropic liquid-crystal polymer or composition gives a molding having reduced anisotropy in mechanical strength and having excellent weld strength.

wherein, the polycondensation reaction is carried out in the presence of a metal dihydrogen phosphate in an amount of 1-5000 ppm based on the total monomer components, and a liquid-crystalline polyester resin manufactured by the method and a composition comprising said resin.
