The method and apparatus is provided for sealing a splice (14) in an electrical cable. A pair of spaced-apart sealing dams are formed about the electrical cable with the splice being located therebetween. A generally cylindrical splice enclosing shell (30), having a pair of opposed open ends is supported around the splice. The shell includes plural shell fingers (40) extending from each end of the shell. The shell fingers are secured to each other at a location outwardly adjacent of the sealing dams to positionally confine the sealing dams, preventing outward migration thereof. The splice may be encapsulated with an encapsulant under pressure, which is retained by the splice enclosing shell.

Bei diesem Verbindungsstück für elektrische Leitungen werden die zu verbindenden Aderenden der elektrischen Leitungen mit Hilfe eines Kernes (3), in dem jeweils für eine elektrische Ader Längsnuten angebracht sind, in denen je weils eine metallische Schraubklemme (5) vorhanden ist, fest miteinander verbunden. Der Kern (3) besteht aus zwei, an der Längsseite verbundenen Hälften, wobei nach dem Verbinden der Aderenden durch die Schraubklemmen (5) die beiden Hälften des Kernes (3) zugeklappt werden, so dass der Kern (3) dann eine zylindrische Form annimmt. An den Enden des Kernes (3) ist jeweils ein Kunststoffbügel an gebracht, der zugeschraubt wird und dabei auf die Umman telung der elektrischen Leitung drückt und diese dadurch zugentlastet. Der Kern (3) wird nun noch durch zwei Gehäu seteile A (1) und B (2), die über den Kern (3) geschoben werden, geschützt. An den Enden des Kernes wird noch je weils ein Zwiebelring (4) aufgeschoben, die den Kern beim überschieben der Gehäuseteile A (1) und B (2) gegen Wasser nach aussen abdichten. In der Mitte, wo die Gehäusetei le A (1) und B (2) beim Zusammenschieben aufeinandertref fen, verhindert ein O-ring (6), dass Wasser eindringt. Die Gehäuseteile A (1) und B (2) werden durch einen Bajonett verschluss verschlossen.

A two piece, plastic, bayonet locking housing (10) for assembly over a high voltage cable splice is provided to protect the splice and exposed concentric neutral wires. End seals (54,56) are provided at the cable entrances to the housing to prevent the entrance of dirt and moisture and take the form of closely conforming rubber tubes (54, 56). The rolled tubes (54, 56) are mounted on the slotted cable entrance ends (36, 38) of the housings and held there by the hoop forces of the housing. Radial displacement of the housing ends (36, 38) reduces these hoop forces permitting the tubes (54, 56) to start to unroll and the tubes (54, 56) are fully extended over the housing ends (36, 38) and onto and over a portion of the cables (52).

A wire cable assembly, such as those used in electric or hybrid electric vehicles, having a plurality of shielded wire cables spliced together. The center conductors are joined together and enclosed in an inner insulator. The shield conductors of the cable are joined by an electrically conductive sleeve enclosing the inner insulator and attached to the shield conductors of the shielded wire cables. The sleeve separates the outer insulating layers of the shielded wire cables. The sleeve is encased by an outer insulator that is sealed to the outer insulating layers of the shielded wire cables. A method of splicing shielded wire cables together is also presented.
