摘要: Systems and methods are provided for diagnosing the death of a fetus in utero. A first ECG signal from the fetus is detected. A second ECG signal from the mother simultaneously is detected. The two ECG signals are displayed on a common time base and compared to determine whether an ECG component originating with the fetus is present in the first ECG signal.

摘要: A machine or process for comparing fingerprints based on the correspondence between fingerspring minutiae. The pattern of minutiae in an unknown or search fingerprint is rotated and translated to obtain approximate registration with the pattern of minutiae in a known on file fingerprint. Following rotation and translation, only those search and file fingerprints that exhibit a sufficient number of mating minutiae between the fingerprints are compared further. For each pair of mating search and file minutiae, the neighboring mating minutiae are compared and an individual minutia "match score" is determined based on the degree of correspondence between the other mating pairs of minutiae within a specified neighborhood of the individual pair of mating search and file minutiae. The individual "match scores" for each of the mating minutiae are summed to yield a total score that is indicative of the correspondence between the search and the file fingerprints.

摘要: The system described is a positive cross identification system finding use in assuring that the proper medicaments are used for the proper patient. In this system, a patient's identification [LD.] number is read by an optical scanner. Next, the I.D. number of the intended recipient on medicament container label is read by the optical scanner and the identification numbers compared in an electronic comparator. If comparison is indicated, an electronically actuated lock on the medicament container is unlocked. The lock described includes a lock body with a receptacle into which a split locking pin is introduced. An actuating pin spreads the members of the locking pin such that the locking pin cannot be removed. The locking pin can be removed only by withdrawing the actuating pin from the split members so that they are allowed to come together and be withdrawn from the aperture. Withdrawal of the actuating pin is accomplished by a solenoid actuated by the output of the comparator.

摘要: The invention is particularly related to the measurement of the area of a blood vessel and the volume flow rate of blood in such vessels. An ultrasonic Doppler velocimeter (10, 12, 14 and 26) which derives a number of velocity signals dependent on the number of different velocities in a duct is coupled by way of a limiter 15 to a frequency-to-voltage converter 16 which therefore has an output with one component for each velocity signal. A further frequency-to-voltage converter 21 provides a signal dependent on the number of velocity signals and since this number depends on the duct area, the output from the converter 21 is a measure of this area. By using another frequency-to-voltage converter 23 and a mean detector 24, a mean velocity signal is obtained which when multiplied by the area signal generates volume flow rate.
