The present invention provides surface treated articles comprising a recoatable surface treatment of an acrylic or vinyl polymer that does not change the appearance of the treated surface, and which imparts blocking resistance and/or stain and dirt pickup resistance to the treated surface. The one or more acrylic or vinyl polymer has a number average molecular weight of from 1,000 to 100,000, a glass transition temperature of -10°C or higher, preferably, 30°C or higher, and comprises the polymerization product of one or more non-ionic monomer, such as methyl methacrylate, with up to 47 wt.% of an ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer and, preferably, is non-migrating under use conditions. When dry, the surface treatments may form a layer of domains of polymer distributed all over the treated surface, rather than a film. Treated articles include coating or painted articles and elastomer films exhibiting blocking and stain resistance, and uncoated wood, glass, metal or plastic articles and laminates, such as countertops, exhibiting stain and dirt pickup resistance.

The present invention provides fast drying aqueous compositions, suitable for use in making roadway markings, as well as the road markings made therefrom, the compositions comprising one or more anionically stabilized binder having a phosphorus acid functional polymer component having a glass transition temperature (Tg) range of from -30°C to 60°C and a polyfunctional amine component in combination with one or more volatile base in an amount sufficient to stabilize the composition by at least partially deprotonating the polyfunctional amine, and one or more phosphorus acid surfactant, such as an alkyl ethoxylated phosphate. Further, the present invention provides two component compositions comprising the above composition as one component and a second component comprising an absorber and/or the polyfunctional amine component. The fast-drying compositions are viscosity stable and provide wear resistant fast dry coatings even in humid application conditions.

An aqueous polymer composition is provided containing select levels of hard polymer and soft polymer, wherein the hard polymer and the soft polymer are contained as dispersed particles. Portions of the hard polymer and optionally, the soft polymer, have select chemical groups. The aqueous polymer composition also contains composite particles formed from pigment particles and a plurality of polymer particles having the select chemical groups. The aqueous polymer composition is useful for preparing coatings having a combination of improved hiding, low temperature film formation, and hardness properties, such as dirt pickup resistance. Methods to prepare and to use the aqueous polymer composition are also provided.

This invention relates to a phosphoric acid group-containing non-aqueous dispersion wherein polymer particles are dispersed in a solution of a macromolecular dispersion stabilizer dissolved in an organic solvent, said polymer particle being a particle of polymer comprising a phosphoric acid group-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomeric unit as a constituent component. With use of said phosphoric acid group-containing non-aqueous dispersion, there can be improved inter layer adhesivity between a metallic coating film, which is formed from a leafing type aluminum flake pigment, and another coating film adjacent thereto, without reducing the excellent effects such as dense metallic feeling of the coated surface, a chrome plating-like finish, and strong brightness feeling and strong flip-flop perperties, which are produced by such a metallic coating film.
