摘要: A catalytic recombiner and filter apparatus is especially suited for placement in a containment of a nuclear reactor. The apparatus has a natural convection flow duct with a number of catalytic elements for recombining hydrogen and oxygen contained in a gas flow through the flow duct. The catalytic recombiner and filter apparatus provides for reliable hydrogen reduction and iodine filtering for a gas flow even for a comparatively long period of operation. The catalytic recombiner and filter apparatus includes a number of adsorber elements with iodine adsorbing surfaces and with macroscopic flow channels in between. The iodine adsorbing surfaces are flown over by the gas flow, and the adsorber elements are arranged, when in use, downstream of the catalytic elements in a direction of the gas flow.

摘要: A post-accident fission product removal system (100) may include an air mover (104), a filter assembly (106), and/or an ionization chamber (116). The air mover (104) may be configured to move contaminated air (102) through the filter assembly (106) to produce filtered air (115). The ionization chamber (116) may be connected to the filter assembly (106). The ionization chamber (116) may include an anode (118) and a cathode (120). The ionization chamber (116) may be configured to receive the filtered air (115) from the filter assembly (106) and to ionize and capture radioisotopes from the filtered air (115) to produce clean air (124).

摘要: A ventilation system (2) for an operating room accessible to service personnel in a nuclear plant, in particular a control room (4) in a nuclear power plant (6), is intended to enable a supply of decontaminated fresh air at least for a time span of a few hours in the event of serious incidents involving the release of radioactive activity. In particular, the content of radioactive inert gases in the fresh air supplied to the operating room should be as low as possible. For this purpose, in accordance with the invention the ventilation system (2) is equipped with • an air supply line (10) passed from an external inlet (14) to the operating room, with a first fan (12) and a first inert gas adsorber column (e.g. 38) being connected into said air supply line (10), • an air discharge line (44) passed from the operating room to an external outlet (72), with a second fan (46) and a second inert gas adsorber column (e.g. 48) being connected into said air discharge line (44), and • switchover means for interchanging the roles of the first and second inert gas adsorber columns (38, 48).
