An improved cataphoretic process is disclosed for use in the manufacture of a color cathode ray tube. The process provides for depositing in sequence on the tube screening surface at least two separate patterns of phosphor elements, with each pattern of elements capable of emitting light of a different color when excited. The process according to the invention comprises first depositing an electrically conductive coating over the screening surface for use as an electrode during each deposition operation. Second, an electrically insulative barrier is deposited over the conductive coating. Portions of the barrier are removed selectively and sequentially for controlling patterned, sequenced cataphoretic access to the electrically conductive coating.

The present invention is an improvement in a method of screening a line screen slit mask color picture tube that includes coating a faceplate panel (36) of the tube with a photosensitive material (40), inserting a slit shadow mask (38) into the panel, and exposing the photosensitive material by passing light from a line light source (20) through a misregister correction lens (30) and through the slits of the mask. The improvement comprises positioning a skew correction lens (26) between the line light source and the misregister correction lens during exposure of the photosensitive material. The skew correction lens has a surface with a general overall cylindrical shape, with deviations from the cylindrical shape being in the four corners of the skew correction lens.

Unterschiedliche thermische Ausdehnungskoeffizienten von Leuchtstoff und Substrat führen zu einer verstärkten Kontraktion der Leuchtstoffschicht, wobei diese an den Verwerfungen bricht und vollständig voneinander getrennte Schichtbereiche (Inseln) entstehen. Die Leuchtstoffschicht ist zur Herstellung eines Röntgendetektors mit hoher Ortsauflösung geeignet.

In a method of regenerating a carbon slurry (14) used to produce a black matrix-type phosphor screen of a cathode ray tube, excess carbon slurry is collected (21) after the completion of carbon-coating of a cathode ray tube panel (11) and the collected carbon slurry is regenerated by means of an ion-exchange resin. The method can be employed in an apparatus for producing the screen, the apparatus including a nozzle (17) for coating the slurry (14) on the panel (11), a tank (13) containing the slurry, a supplying system (16) for supplying the slurry from the tank to the nozzle, a collecting system (21) for collecting the excess slurry produced from the nozzle back into the tank, and a carbon slurry regenerating device (24) using the ion-exchange resin. The regenerating device (29) can be placed in at least one of the supplying system (16), the collecting system (21) and the tank (13).

In a method of manufacturing a color cathode ray tube, a photosensitive layer is formed on an inner surface of a panel (1) and a shadow mask (3) is mounted in the panel (1). The photosensitive layer is exposed to a light beam emitted from a light source (13) and passing through a lens system (15), a shutter (16) and apertures of the shadow mask (3) to form a pattern corresponding to the apertures of the shadow mask (3) in an exposure step. In the exposure step, the shutter (16) is moved along the inner surface of the panel (1) and the light source (13) is also moved in synchronism with the movement of the shutter (16). Thus, the light beam is so shifted as to satisfy the r - Δp characteristic of the cathode ray tube.
