摘要： A giant magnetoresistive (GMR) transducer employs a pair of flux guide yoke members (14, 15) that define a magnetic transducing gap (G). A GMR structure (11) formed of stack of multiple layers (11b, 11c, 11d) is located away from the transducing gap (G) between spaced portions of one of the flux guide yoke members (14, 15) and is electrically connected to the facing surfaces of these spaced portions. When a sense current is supplied through the spaced portions of the one flux guide member (14, 15) and through the GMR structure (11), a current-in-the-plane (CIP) mode of operation of the transducer is effectuated. Magnetic bias (21) is supplied to the GMR structure either by a permanent magnet or by a current-carrying bias conductor.

摘要： A reproducing apparatus for a disc-like recording medium in which administration information of recorded information is recorded together with the information has a stocking section (8), a reproducing section, a transferring mechanism, a memory and a controller. A plurality of disc-like recording media are stocked in the stocking section (8) in a laminate fashion. The reproducing section reproduces the information and the administration information recorded in the disc-like recording medium. The transferring mechanism selectively picks up the disc-like medium from the stocking section (8) and transfers the picked-up recording medium between the stocking section (8) and the reproducing section and transfers the recording medium to an eject position from the reproducing apparatus. The memory stores the administration information of the recording medium read out or reproduced by the reproducing section and information concerning a reproduction order. The controller controls each operation of the transferring mechanism, the reproducing section and the memory. When the recording medium is transferred to the eject position by the transferring mechanism, the controller delete the information of administration of the recording medium transferred to the eject position and the reproduction order stored in the memory.

摘要： The air bearing surface of an air bearing slider is formed with first and second leading end tapers (10, 12) that are spaced from the sides of the slider. Air bearing pads (14, 16) are formed with transverse sections and longitudinal legs which define a major recessed central region. The leading end tapers and the transverse sections delineate a narrow recessed channel (22) extending from the slider leading end to the recessed central region (18). Angled recessed areas (20, 22) are formed between the legs and sides of the slider. A third pad (24) is located at the trailing end of the slider. As a result, the slider has virtually no roll and improved stiffness for pitch and vertical characteristics of the slider over a large range of altitudes, including sea level to about 10,000 feet above sea level.

In this case, the taking-out mechanism includes a first movement operation mechanism adapted to be inserted into the accommodating body through the opening portion provided at the accommodating body to move any one of the cartridges accommodated within the accommodating body in a direction in parallel to the principal surface thereof. The carrying mechanism is disposed between the accommodating body and the recording and/or reproduction unit to allow the cartridge taken out by the taking-out mechanism after undergone movement between the accommodating unit and the recording and/or reproduction unit to undergo loading into the recording and/or reproduction unit. Since the taking-out mechanism for disc cartridge is disposed at one side surface side of the accommodating body and the carrying mechanism for loading the cartridge into the recording and/or reproduction unit is disposed between the accommodating body and the recording and/or reproduction unit, miniaturization of the apparatus can be easily realized.
