摘要:
The present invention provides absorbent articles, especially sanitary napkins, containing a fluid transport layer. In-use, the transport layer directs menses to a storage layer, thereby minimizing product failure and staining of undergarments. The transport layer can protrude into, or through, a topsheet to provide very aggressive transport of vaginal discharges. Preferably, the transport layer is a layer of fibers having external capillary channels.

An absorbent article, such as a diaper, sanitary napkin, adult incontinence device which has absorbent components comprised of blends of different types of fibers is provided. The absorbent components are arranged in structures that provide improved core integrity and liquid processing. The absorbent article preferably comprises a liquid pervious topsheet, a liquid impervious backsheet joined to the topsheet, an absorbent core positioned between the topsheet and the backsheet, and an acquisition layer overlying the absorbent core. The absorbent core comprises a blend of cellulosic fibers, absorbent gelling material, and fibers such as crimped synthetic fibers that form liquid stable bonds with adjacent layers. The acquisition layer also comprises at least some fibers that form liquid stable bonds with adjacent layers. The fibers that form liquid stable bonds in the absorbent core and the acquisition layer are bonded to liquid stable components. The liquid stable components can comprise the topsheet, the backsheet, and an optional intermediate liquid stable layer positioned between the acquisition layer and the absorbent core.

An absorbent article, such as a diaper, sanitary napkin (20), adult incontinent device which have absorbent cores (32) comprised of blends of different types of fibers are provided. The absorbent articles preferably comprise a liquid pervious topsheet (28), a liquid impervious backsheet (30) joined to the topsheet, a blended absorbent core positioned between the topsheet and the backsheet, and an acquisition layer (34). The absorbent core comprises a homogeneous blend of fibers comprising a first group of short, low denier, hydrophilic fibers and a second group of longer, higher denier, moisture insensitive synthetic fibers. The first group of fibers is selected from a group comprising natural fibers, synthetic fibers or cross-linked cellulose fibers. The second group of fibers comprises between about 5 and 90 % of said absorbent core, by weight. The absorbent core is compressed to a density of at least about 0.09 g/cm3 (1.5 g/in.2).

The present invention relates to absorbent articles such as sanitary napkins, panty liners, and incontinence pads. More particularly, the present invention relates to absorbent articles, such as sanitary napkins, that have longitudinal side edge components (52) that naturally wrap the sides (22) of a wearer's panties which provide an alternative to conventional side flaps. The side edge components are extensible, and may be attached inboard of the longitudinal edges of the main body of the article, or be decoupled from the main body, or comprise part of the impervious backsheet of the main body.

The female protection system of the present invention includes a menstrual short (28) having an outer protective layer (30) and an inner gusset layer (32). A catamenial pad assembly (50) is connectable to the menstrual short and includes front and rear ends. The catamenial pad assembly includes an absorbent member (52) for absorbing menses and a cinch (56) for biasing the absorbent member into the gluteal groove and against the perineum of the female when worn. A first fastener (70, 72) is provided on the front end of the catamenial pad assembly for attaching the catamenial pad assembly to a first mating surface that is provided at a front attachment location on at least one of the inner gusset layer and the outer protective layer. A second fastener (78) is provided on the rear end of the catamenial pad assembly for attaching the catamenial pad assembly to a second mating surface that is provided at a rear attachment location on at least one of the inner gusset layer and the outer protective layer. The front and rear attachment locations are positioned to cause the cinch to bias the absorbent member of the catamenial pad assembly into the gluteal groove and against the perineum of the female when worn.
