Abstract:
The present invention relates to a layered absorbent structure in the form of a laminate including liquid storage layers comprising particulate superabsorbent material and adhesive fibers. Notably, the absorbent structure includes a wicking layer positioned between the liquid storage layers, with the wicking layer desirably acting to improve fluid spreading and rewet performance of the absorbent structure. The wicking layer preferably comprises airlaid cellulosic fibrous material such as wood pulp, and may optionally include superabsorbent polymer. A bonding pattern of the wicking layer is oriented to enhance wicking and rewet performance.
Abstract:
An absorbent article, such as a diaper, sanitary napkin, adult incontinence device which has absorbent components comprised of blends of different types of fibers is provided. The absorbent components are arranged in structures that provide improved core integrity and liquid processing. The absorbent article preferably comprises a liquid pervious topsheet, a liquid impervious backsheet joined to the topsheet, an absorbent core positioned between the topsheet and the backsheet, and an acquisition layer overlying the absorbent core. The absorbent core comprises a blend of cellulosic fibers, absorbent gelling material, and fibers such as crimped synthetic fibers that form liquid stable bonds with adjacent layers. The acquisition layer also comprises at least some fibers that form liquid stable bonds with adjacent layers. The fibers that form liquid stable bonds in the absorbent core and the acquisition layer are bonded to liquid stable components. The liquid stable components can comprise the topsheet, the backsheet, and an optional intermediate liquid stable layer positioned between the acquisition layer and the absorbent core.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to absorbent articles such as sanitary napkins worn by women. More particularly, the present invention relates to absorbent articles, such as thin sanitary napkins, that are stretchable, especially in the longitudinal direction.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus (50) of embossing a pattern into absorbent articles such as sanitary napkins, panty liners, and adult incontinence pads which simultaneously forms a perimeter seal on the absorbent article is disclosed. The method and apparatus utilize a heated sealing member (56) and an anvil surface. The heated sealing member has a recessed region (58) with a lower temperature and lower pressure embossing member (60) therein.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to absorbent articles such as sanitary napkins, panty liners, and incontinence pads. More particularly, the present invention relates to absorbent articles, such as sanitary napkins, that have longitudinal side edge components (52) that naturally wrap the sides (22) of a wearer's panties which provide an alternative to conventional side flaps. The side edge components are extensible, and may be attached inboard of the longitudinal edges of the main body of the article, or be decoupled from the main body, or comprise part of the impervious backsheet of the main body.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to absorbent articles such as sanitary napkins, panty liners, and incontinence pads. More particularly, the present invention relates to extensible absorbent articles, such as sanitary napkins, that are provided with less extensible lips (44) that serve as barriers to the flow of liquids.
Abstract:
A menstrual garment (28) for maintaining a catamenial pad (26) in a pudendal region of a female wearer includes an outer layer (30) having first and second leg openings formed therein for receiving the legs of a female wearer. An inner layer (32) is provided between the first and second leg openings and is attached to the outer layer. A lifting mechanism (42, 112, 200) is located between the inner and outer layers for lifting a catamenial pad worn by the female into her gluteal groove and against her perineum. In one preferred form, the lifting mechanism is an elastic cinch (42) disposed between the inner and outer layers. In an alternative preferred form, the lifting mechanism is a stitched seam (112) that is sewn into the inner layer.
Abstract:
A generally thin, flexible sanitary napkin capable of absorbing medium to high menstrual flows, and having a stiffened center is provided. In one embodiment, the sanitary napkin has a longitudinal central region disposed along the length of at least a portion of the longitudinal centerline, and longitudinal side regions are disposed outboard of the longitudinal central region. The longitudinal central region of the sanitary napkin has a flexure-resistance that is greater than that of the longitudinal side regions. The embodiment of the sanitary napkin described above easily forms around the curvature of the wearer's labia majora by cupping and surrounding the exterior of the labia majora. The longitudinal central region of the sanitary napkin forms the bottom of a cup-like trough under the wearer's labia majora, and the longitudinal side regions are sufficently flexible that they are able to form the sides of the trough structure.
