A motorcar having excellent characteristics with respect to various aerodynamic problems over an ordinary motorcar running on an ordinary road, i.e. such air resistance and dynamic lift during an operation thereof that are lower than those in a conventional motorcar, and such an external appearance that is substantially not different from that of a conventional motorcar. A means for achieving this object consists of an air flow passage (4) which is provided in a hollow made by cutting a panel above the wheels, and which extends from a front air inlet portion (2) to a rear air discharge portion (3). The air passes without trouble through a non-panel-covered hollow space above the wheels, and advances smoothly toward the air discharge portion (3) which is higherthan or as high as the air inlet portion (2). Therefore, the air resistance and dynamic lift of the motorcar according to this invention can be reduced to levels lower than those of the air resistance and dynamic lift of a conventional motorcar. The airflow passage (4) is covered with a bonnet (16), and a reverse lift plate (5) and a reverse lift member (12) which are joined pivotably to an outer plate. These reverse lift plate (5) and reverse lift member (12) are fixed in harmony with the surrounding portions ofthe outer plate so that the height of the former is not different greatly from that of the latter. Therefore, the external appearance of the motorcar according to the present invention is substantially the same as that of a conventional motorcar.

A bottom plate extends along a lower surface of the vehicle for covering the radiator. The bottom plate comprises a movable section coupled to an actuator mechanism for adjusting a ground clearance. The engine cooling system comprises flow guides mounted between the grille and the radiator, and an anti-recirculation cover mounted between the radiator and the bottom plate. The movable section is pivotable around a pivot axis directly downstream of the anti-recirculation cover. A controller is configured to control the actuator mechanism to adjust the ground clearance in dependence of a driving velocity.

Two side ducts (18) are each extending from an inlet (19) located on a respective side wall (103) of the main chamber (9) to an outlet (20) giving out on a respective outer side wall (2B) of the motor-vehicle. To said second opening (20) there is associated a device (13) for controlling the air flow therethrough. The outlets (20) of the two side ducts (18) are arranged and oriented so as to generate a substantially flattened and vertical air curtain adjacent to each front wheel (W) of the motor-vehicle on the outer side thereof.

The drive shaft transmits the drive from the actuator coupled to one linkage assembly to the other linkage assembly for moving the deflector panel between the deployed/retracted positions. The actuator is clutched to prevent damage to the system.
