A method of making a polymer-binder composite, and the composite thus created. The method employs a high shear device that mixes together polymer with binder, and optionally with additive. The mixing is accomplished in less than one hour, less than 30 minutes or less than 3 minutes, and done at high shear rates. The shear conditions are defined by scalar shear quantity greater than 250, 1,000 or 1,500, resident time of greater than 0.05, 0.10 or 0.20 seconds, and energy utilized per unit mass of greater than 0.05, 0.10 or 0.20 kW/kg. The composite thus produced can be made with a high percentage of polymers. It can be cooled and cut into pellets that are dry and stable at normal temperatures and which can be stored or transported without heating to secondary mixing locations. The composite pellets are quickly soluble in the additional binder.

The invention relates to a method for producing a solid intermediate compound for incorporating into liquid bitumen obtained from petroleum or into mineral oils in order to produce liquid/polymer bitumen. According to said method, a polymer for producing said liquid/polymer bitumen is hot-mixed with solid bitumen, the mixture is then cooled, and the solid intermediate compound thus obtained is split. The invention also relates to the intermediate compound obtained, the liquid/polymer bitumen formed from said intermediate compound, and a bitumen-coated material containing said intermediate compound or liquid/polymer bitumen.

A method for the production of a hardened surfacing comprises the following steps:
laying at least one layer consisting of granules of a rock-like material, which are at least bound by a fusible binder, obtained from oil refining, at a temperature of between 130 °C and 190 °C onto a substrate, compacting this layer immediately after laying by applying pressure, for example using a roller, allowing the layer to cool, and removing the top portion of the layer by mechanical means, such as milling, grinding or polishing, as a result of which granules that have been cut through become visible, wherein, before the layer is laid, particles are added to the layer and mixed with the granules and the binder in the mixture and as a result are distributed through the mixture, after which the layer is laid, compacted and cooled and the top portion is removed, as a result of which a portion of said particles, which at least partially are located in the top portion of the layer, is likewise removed.
