The invention relates to a device for producing hollow bodies from thermoplastically deformable plastic films, wherein a forming tool (2) is arranged in relation to a deformation unit in such a manner that the separation movement to eject manufactured hollow bodies can be directed downwards. Unforced guidance of a swivel table (1) into a guide groove (6) enables the proper weight of the swivel table (1) to be used in conjunction with the forming tool (2) to carry out the downward and swivel movement, thereby substantially streamlining construction design of the swivel mechanism. Specific modification in the shape of the cam plate (8) and in the design of the guide groove (6) also enables acceleration and deceleration forces to be minimized in the respective end points thereby substantially reducing wear and tear of the device and providing a high degree of operational reliability at reduced cycle times.

A tread mold loading machine (20) is used to position the prepared tire carcass (180) relative to the mold segments (202) and to install the mold segments on the exterior of the tire carcass by a tension band. Resilient elastic tension bands or prestressed metal tension springs (204) hold the mold segments on the tire carcass after the mold segments have been released from the tread mold loading machine. The use of the tread mold loading machine and the mold segments eliminates distortion of the tire carcass during installation of the tread mold.

A twin sheet thermoformer apparatus using hydraulic cylinders to draw the upper and lower platens together for uniform seam forming of the part. A flow divider insures uniform travel of each hydraulic cylinder. An adjustment mechanism enables simultaneous adjustment of the position of four locking shafts on one platen coupled to form locking shafts on the other platen preparatory to operation of the hydraulic cylinders. The adjustment mechanism includes nut members each threaded onto a locking shaft with a recirculating chain engaged with a sprocket on each nut member. Driving the chain enables simultaneous adjustment of each shaft to allow the platen positions to be quickly and accurately adjusted. An encoder generates signals corresponding to the lower platen travel caused by operation of the hydraulic cylinders, which are transmitted to the lower platen drive servo motor to drive the lower platen correspondingly.

The clamp assembly includes a pair of clamp members (2, 3) for engagement with the flanges of the moulds, a shaft (4) passing through the clamp members, a first stop member (5) provided on the shaft for engagement with one of the clamp members, a spacer (6) provided on the shaft for axial slidable movement and adapted for engagement with the other of the clamp members, a second stop member (8) provided on the shaft for engagement with the spacer at an end opposite to the other of the clamp members. The shaft is made of a material having a coefficient of thermal expansion which is smaller than that of a material from which the spacer is made so that the spacer has a thermal expansion in the axial direction which is not smaller than a thermal expansion in the axial direction of the shaft under the same temperature increase.
