The invention is a sensor with no parts in movement for the speed and the direction of the wind, contained in a single constructive unit. It is composed of a fixing support (1), a metal bar of circular section arranged in a vertical position (2), a sphere on the top of the bar (3). Many extension detectors and/or deformation detectors (4) are applied on the part of the bar closer to the support, in the direction of the axis of the bar itself. A protection (5) with a connector (6) protects the bar and makes possible the connection to read the signals. When the wind exerts its force on the spherical surface, the subjected bar undergoes a deformation proportional to the speed of the wind, bending in an imperceptible way according to where the wind is coming from. The ext ension and/or deformation detectors measure this deformation and are connected to an electronic circuit of conditioning and elabo ration of the signal.

When the first electrode (11) receives the air the electrode (11) is deflected by the air pressure so as to change the spacing between the first and second electrodes (11,12). The air flow to be injected to a combustion engine is measured by utilizing the change of capacitance between the electrodes. A second embodiment includes a strain detection element (24) sandwiched between a cantilever mounted electrode (21) and a support electrode (22). Flow impinging upon the cantilever mounted electrode places pressure upon the strain detection element changing its voltage output.

The present specification discloses a brake actuation system for a vehicle, which is applicable to both hydraulically or pneumatically operated/spring released brakes and spring operated/hydraulically or pneumatically released brakes. With such brakes it is often necessary to have secondary means for brake operation or release. Such braking systems thus have primary and secondary means for brake operation or release. The present invention provides a fail-safe system which can provide at least an indication of impending failure. The brake actuation system of the present invention comprises a cylinder (1) within which two axially aligned pistons (3,5) are axially slidable, the space (7) between one end of the cylinder (1) and one piston (3) being connected to a primary power system (13,11,25,9) and the space (15) between said pistons (3,5) being connected to a secondary power system (13,21,19,17). When such an actuation system is used in a spring operated/hydraulically released braking system, the primary power system (13,11,25,9) of the present invention is the primary brake release and the secondary power system (13,21,19,17) is a secondary or emergency release which may constitute a handpump (19). By providing suitable flow detection means (21,25) in the primary and secondary power systems, leakage past piston seals (53,57) can be monitored and detected before the seal failure is sufficient to dangerously affect brake performance.
