摘要: In a power assistance system for a vehicle steering mechanism fluid pressure providing the assistance is supplied from a pump (4) driven intermittently by an infinitely-variable electric motor means (5). For a rack and pinion mechanism (1) fluid pressure chambers (6, 7) are formed by sealing boots (8,9) at each end of the rack (3), and are connected through the pump (4), which is operative to create a pressure differential between the chambers, and thus across the rack (3) to provide power assistance. The electric motor (5) is energised as required to drive the pump (4) in the appropriate direction, and when the motor and pump are inoperative fluid is allowed to flow freely between the chambers (6, 7) to accommodate fluid displacement as a result of unassisted operation of the steering. The pump (4) is preferably a turbine pump, which allows fluid flow when inoperative. The system provides power assistance efficiently, and relatively cheaply.

摘要: A braking system for a vehicle has a stepper motor (10) which controls the application of friction elements (15) to a rotating part such as a brake drum (16). A control circuit (17,18) controls the motor (10) so that an output member (12) is positioned by the motor (10) in accordance with a variable demand signal (21,22). In one application, the control circuit (17,18) receives a brake pressure signal from a transducer (19) and controls the motor (10) so as to compensate automatically for brake wear. In another application, the motor controls a debooster of an antilock brake system.

摘要: An hydraulic braking system includes a primary pressure source (1) connected to a brake actuator and operable by a force input device (2). A fluid displacer (8) is actuated by an electrical stepper motor (11) operated by a controller (13) in response to action of said device 2, as sensed by a sensor (14). Fluid displaced from the displacer (8) is added to that displaced from the primary pressure source for application to the actuator. By suitable programming of the controller, servo-assistance and/or quick-fill modes can be produced by the displacer (8) and a wheel-slip correction facility can also be provided.

摘要: The present specification discloses a disc brake suitable for use on a railway vehicle. In certain railway vehicles the disc brakes are inaccessible or short of space in the region inboard of the disc though they do not have the usual constraints due to a road wheel rim as are common in car and truck brake installations.
The present invention provides a disc brake wherein the caliper (1) is simply and positively supported by a mounting which uses a minimum of space whilst avoiding any conflict of tolerances and deflections, and any cross-binding due to frictional forces, as can occur in twin pin sliding brake constructions. The present invention comprises a caliper (1) arranged to straddle a disc (3) and to press a friction pad (7,27) against each side of the disc (3) when actuated. The caliper (1) is mounted at one circumferential end region with respect to the disc (3), on a first support member (9) by means of a sliding pin connection (11) extending parallel to the axis of the disc (3), and at the other circumferential end region with respect to the disc (3), by a second support member (13) which is joined both to said other circumferential end region and to a fixed member (17), by flexible coup lines (15,19). 摘要: The present specification discloses a brake actuator incorporating a mechanically operated adjuster, the adjuster compensating for friction pad wear. Certain known adjusters are hydraulically operated and due to there being possible problems with hydraulic operation, e.g. seal failure, which are especially disadvantageous in certain applications, the use of a hydraulically operated adjuster is not fully approved.
The present invention provides a brake actuator comprising two adjuster members (1, 3) interconnected by a self-sustaining thread (5) and located between a friction pad (11) and an actuation member (17), the actuation member (17) being biassed by a main spring (19) to a brakes-on position with at least one hollow piston (23) being displaceable under hydraulic pressure to compress the main spring (19) and move the actuation member (17) to a brakes-off position, a second piston (27) being axially displaceable within said hollow piston (23) under said hydraulic pressure and against a further spring (29), to cause interengaging means (39, 41) to rotate one adjuster member (1) relative to the other adjuster member (3), stop means (43) being arranged to limit the available movement of said interengaging means (39, 41). The present invention thus provides a mechanically operated adjuster which avoids the inherent disadvantages of hydraulic operation.-

摘要: Fluid flow control valve means for servo systems operate in response to an input load to control fluid flow to a fluid pressure operated device, which produces an output load. A valve means typically comprises inlet and exhaust valves 10 and 15 operated by the input load and a feedback from the output load, which may be too slow to operate the valves 10, 15 successfully. The valve (e.g. 15) therefore has a valve member 6 responsive to the input load, which is biassed by resilient means 16 towards a valve seat 8, which is movable in response to the pressure differential across it such that for at least one mode of operation of the valve, the seat 8 moves in response to a change in the pressure differential to counter the effect of a change in input load. This effect is known as negative feedback. The valve means is preferably arranged so that the effect operates for opening of both inlet and exhaust valves 10, 15. The resilient means 13 may comprise a spring, or a flexible diaphragm 12, 18.

摘要: A vehicle gas suspension system consits of a suspension unit (21), a high pressure reservoir (1), a low pressure reservoir (2) and an electrically driven pump (3). Control valves .(18 and 22) are disposed in connection lines (19 and 23) between the unit (21) and the reservoirs (1 and 2) for respectively controlling the flow of gas to and from the suspension unit (21) so as to maintain the ride height of the vehicle at a suitably adjusted attitude irrespective of vehicle loading. The pump comprises a tubular barrel (9), a valve at one end of the barrel (9), and a piston (7) and flexible seal (8) which reciprocate in the barrel (9) reservoirs (1 and 2). A vacuum relief valve (25) in the wall of the low pressure reservoir (2) allows air to be drawn into the reservoir (2) from the atmosphere, and a dump valve (28) opens to allow gas to flow from the high pressure reservoir (1) to the low pressure reservoir (2) when a maximum permitted pressure is reached in the high ',pressure reservoir (1).
