The process of the invention envisages using the resulting signal for controlling the application of a deposit-controlling composition. An optional further sensor (88) enables detection of the nature of the deposition whose quantity is sensed by the strain gauge.

A method for inhibiting hydrogen sulfite evolution from molten sulfur is disclosed. The method involves adding a hypohalide to molten sulfur containing hydrogen sulfite. The hypohalide, such as hypochlorite, hyprobromite, and their sodium or calcium salts inhibit the evolution of hydrogen sulfite from molten sulfur.

A second water-solulble cationic copolymer having general formula (II), wherein Z represents (c), or residual groups of -CH2N?O(R4R5)CH¿2CH=CH2X-, or mixtures thereof, and n is 1 to 5; R?1, R2 and R3¿ are independently selected from the group consisting of H or C¿1? to C3 alkyl; R?4, R5 and R6¿ are independently C¿1? to C3 alkyl, and X is a halide, hydroxyl or alkylsulfate anion; and wherein x, y and q represent molar percents of monomeric units in the copolymer such that q is 1 to 99 mol %, and the molar ratio of x to y is from 0 to 10. The copolymers of this invention are useful as flocculating agents and as drainage/retention aids in pulp and papermaking operations.

The present invention relates to an exopolysaccharide degrading enzyme, to enzymatic compositions capable of degrading exopolysaccharides and in particular to the reduction or removal of biofilm on surfaces and to the prevention of biofilm formation on such surfaces. More particularly, the present invention relates to the use of the enzyme and/or the enzymatic composition, comprising at least one exopolysaccharide degrading enzyme, for the reduction, removal and/or prevention of biofilm on surfaces of aqueous systems (water-bearing systems, fluid systems). The present invention further relates to a bacterial strain producing an exopolysaccharide degrading enzyme, and to the exopolysaccharide degrading enzyme prepared from a newly isolated strain of Streptomyces. Specifically, the exopolysaccharide degrading enzyme of the present invention is a colanic acid degrading enzyme.

Synergistic composition and method of use are disclosed. The compositions comprise a quinone methide derivative and a hydroxylamine compound. These compositions demonstrate synergism at inhibiting the polymerization of a vinyl aromatic monomer. Preferably the quinone methide derivative is 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-benzylidene-cyclo-2,5-dienone and the hydroxylamine compound is N,N-bis(hydroxypropyl)-hydroxylamine.
