The present invention provides a method for producing an ink jet printed matter, characterized by forming a white color base coating film layer (I) on a base material surface using a white color base coating material which contains silica fine particles having an oil absorption of 10 to 400 ml/100 g and which has a pigment volume concentration of 5 to 90 %, then forming a printed layer (II) thereon by an ink jet system using a water based ink composition and further forming a clear coat layer (III) thereon using a clear coating material. According to the above method, a printed matter which has a preferred pattern and is excellent in a weatherability can be obtained.
