    摘要: A variable displacement vane pump which includes an enhanced discharge port (140,152). The enhanced discharge port reduces areas of high pressure in the discharge port (140) which would otherwise occur as the pressurized working fluid reverses its direction of flow to enter the discharge port (140). By reducing the areas of high pressure, the back torque on the pump rotor (108) is reduced and the energy efficiency of the pump is enhanced. In one embodiment, the pivot (120) for the pump control ring (116) is located radially outwardly from a conventional location, to allow for a discharge recess (152) to be formed in the control ring (116), adjacent the discharge port (140), and extending past the pivot (120) to the pump outlet. In a second embodiment, the discharge recess (152) is formed in the control ring (208) around the pivot (120) and a seal (216) is provided on the control ring to inhibit leakage of pressurized working fluid past the control ring. In a third embodiment, a secondary discharge port (312) is provided adjacent the discharge recess (308) formed in the control ring (304) and pressurized working fluid in the discharge recess can exit the discharge recess through the secondary discharge port which is in fluid communication with the pump outlet.

    Supplying pressurized fluid to the first control chamber to create a force on the pump control ring such that the force pivots the pump control ring to reduce the volumetric capacity of the pump, wherein the return spring acts against the pivoting force of the first control chamber to establish an equilibrium pressure; and selectively supplying pressurized fluid to the second control chamber to create a force on the pump control ring such that the force pivots the pump control ring to reduce the volumetric capacity of the pump, wherein the return spring acts against the pivoting force of the first and second control chambers to establish a new, lower, equilibrium pressure.

    摘要: An electric fluid pump (16) and method of regulating flow of liquid therethrough is provided. The pump has an electric motor (10) including a stator (38) and a rotor (40), wherein the rotor is supported for rotation to drive an impeller (46) that is fixed thereto for rotation to pump coolant from a fluid inlet (18) to a fluid outlet (24). A controller (48) is in operable, closed loop communication with the electric motor, and the impeller is operable to rotate in a first rotary pumping direction (CW) and an opposite second rotary pumping direction (CCW) in response to a signal (54) from the controller. The first rotary pumping direction produces a first positive flow rate of coolant (22) outwardly from the fluid outlet and the second rotary pumping direction produces a second positive flow rate of coolant (28) outwardly from the fluid outlet, with the first positive flow rate being greater than the second positive flow rate.
