The method comprises: while playing a program material stored on at least one storage device, displaying a cache bar to a user, wherein said cache bar indicates the length of the stored program material through which the user is able to navigate and play back; and displaying a position indicator superimposed on the cache bar, wherein said position indicator is a visual indication to the user indicating a current playback position within the program material, and wherein said position indicator moves within the boundaries of the cache bar. The invention further comprises an apparatus, a computer readable storage medium, and a use of a computer system.

摘要： A method and apparatus for sharing multimedia content using a digital video recorder (DVR). A multimedia device among a plurality of multimedia devices in communication with a DVR via a local network receives a user command to play multimedia content stored on the DVR. In response to the user command, the multimedia device retrieves the multimedia content stored on the DVR, the DVR receiving at least a portion of a plurality of stored multimedia content via an input tuner. Subsequent to retrieving the multimedia content, the multimedia device plays the multimedia content to a user or sends the multimedia content for display to the user. The multimedia device processes the multimedia content prior to the playing or sending operations.

The user may then rewind and playback not only already locally stored content but also that content provided by the network storage device (120). Content can be provided through faster-than-real-time transmissions such that the content is made available to the digital video recorder (150) prior to it being needed for rewind functionality or playback.

摘要： A method for generating and maintaining hierarchical tags with community-based ratings is provided. Tags for media streams are organized into a hierarchical format. Users may select tags from the hierarchical tag database that describes a particular multimedia content. If the user is unable to locate a desired tag, the user may submit a new tag. Upon submission of the new tag, a librarian approves the tag before storing and placing the tag in the hierarchical tag database. Users are also able to rate the quality of the association between the tag and the multimedia content. If a tag is rated low, the tag may be removed from the hierarchical tag database. If the tag is rated highly, display of the tag in a list of tags becomes more prominent.

摘要： Techniques described herein enable parents to establish a child-protective “kids zone” on a DVR. According to one technique, a DVR receives, from a parent, identities of content items that the parent does not want children to view. The DVR maps the identities to a kids zone. During times that the DVR is set to operate in the kids zone operational mode, the DVR prevents itself from presenting any content items that are associated with the identities. However, during these times, the DVR still may obtain and store these content items. At other times, during which the DVR is not set to operate in the kids zone operational mode, the DVR may allow itself to present the content items that are associated with the identities, including content items that the DVR obtained and stored during times that the DVR was set to operate in the kids zone operational mode.
