A curable film-forming composition is provided comprising (i) 10 to 90 percent by weight based on the total weight of resin solids in the film-forming composition of a crosslinking agent; (ii) 10 to 90 percent by weight of a polymer containing a plurality of functional groups reactive with the crosslinking agent; and (iii) 5 to 85 percent by volume of particles having a mean particle size less than 100 nm. The particles comprise 1 to 99 percent by weight of at least one metal oxide wherein the metal is selected from zinc, titanium, cerium, manganese, bismuth, copper, zirconium and iron. A multi-component composite coating composition is also provided, comprising a pigmented basecoat and a clear coat. The basecoat and/or clearcoat may be derived from the curable film-forming composition described above. Also provided are coated substrates in which the curable coating compositions or the multi-component composite coating compositions described above are applied to a substrate and cured to form a cured coating. Further provided is a pigment comprising particles having a mean particle size less than 100 nm and comprising 1 to 99 percent by weight metal oxide wherein the metal is selected from zinc, titanium, cerium, manganese, bismuth, copper, zirconium and iron and 1 to 99 percent by weight silica. These particles may be used in the curable film-forming compositions described above.

The electric lamp comprises a lamp vessel (1) which is transparent to visible light and which accommodates a light source. At least a part of the lamp vessel (1) is covered with a light-absorbing coating (3). According to the invention, said light-absorbing coating (3) comprises a network which can be obtained by conversion of an organically modified silane by means of a sol-gel process. The organically modified silane is selected from the group formed by compounds of structural formula R I Si(OR II ) 3 , wherein R I is an alkyl or aryl group and R II is an alkyl group. Preferably, R I is CH 3 or C 6 H 5 and R II is CH 3 or C 2 H 5 . Nano-sized silica particles having a diameter d ≤ 50 nm may be incorporated in the network. The pigment is preferably chosen from the group formed by Fe 2 O 3 , P-doped Fe 2 O 3 , ZnFe 2 O 4 , ZnO.Fe 2 O 4 , CoAl 2 O 4 , Nd 2 O 5 , BiVO 4 and zirconium praseodymium silicate or mixtures thereof. The light-absorbing coating (3) of the electric lamp according to the invention is optically transparent, substantially free of scattering and stable at temperatures up to 350 °C.

The invention concerns a method for incorporation comprising the following steps: (a) forming on at least one surface of a substrate a thin impregnable layer; (b) depositing by spin coating on said impregnable thin layer an impregnating composition comprising at least an additive incorporated in an appropriate diluting medium; (c) diffusing the impregnating additive within said impregnable thin layer; (d) treating the coated substrate of the impregnated thin layer to eliminate, at least partly, the diluting medium of the impregnated thin layer. The invention is useful for colouring optical lenses.
