A method of manufacturing a slide fastener by cutting a long fastener chain, alternately having in a longitudinal direction thereof a pair of element rows meshing with each other and an interval portion lacking the element row, at a predetermined position of the interval portion, the method including the steps of: arranging a feed portion of the fastener chain on an upstream side of a chain cutting portion; positively transferring the fastener chain successively by the feed portion to the chain cutting portion along an inclined transfer path inclined downward; operating the chain cutting portion after waiting for the transfer of the fastener chain to stop and cutting the slide faster chain in a cross direction at the predetermined position of the interval portion; and making the cut slide fastener to be separated by the chain cutting portion slide down by its self weight along the transfer path.

A method and a system for forming slider end stops (24,26) on a zipper tape (12) that comprises first and second interlockable zipper parts (24). The method comprises the following steps: (a) transmitting sufficient ultrasonic wave energy into first and second areas of the zipper tape (12) to cause the first and second interlocked zipper parts (24) to deform and fuse in the first and second areas (28,30), the first and second areas (28,30) being separated by a gap; and (b) applying sufficient heat and pressure onto a third area (31) of the zipper tape to cause the interlocked zipper parts to deform and fuse in the third area (31), at least part of the third area being located between the first and second areas (28,30) in the gap. The first and second areas (28,30) do not impinge upon the zipper rails (88,90). The third area (31) does impinge upon the zipper rails (88,90). Thus the zipper rails are deformed in the third area (31), but not in adjacent areas located below and contiguous with the first and second areas (28,30). The zipper tape (12) and packaging film (16) are cut along a midline (32) of the third area to sever each package (10) from the continuous web.

According to the fastener chain, method and apparatus for forming ends thereof, coil-shaped fastener elements (11) as linear fastener elements (1) are attached and sewed to side edge portions (5) of a pair of fastener tapes (2) with sewing yarns (15) as fixing yarns (4) while a core thread (3) is inserted through the fastener elements (1). The coil-shaped fastener elements (1) are cut off at leg portions (22), each of which is in contact with the fastener tape (2), at ends of the fastener elements (1), so that cut end portions (7) are formed. These cut end portions (7) are pushed inward of the side edge portions (5), and then, the leg portions (22) and inverted portions (23) thereof are fused to the fastener tapes (2) by heating. As a result, a form of each end of the fastener elements (1) is stabilized, so that the resultant slide fastener is good in safety.

A slider inserting apparatus (1) is constructed such that before a concealed fastener chain (C) is threaded through a slider (S), the front and back and the rear end of a flange portion (S-1) and the front surface and the fore-end of a guide post (S-2) are held between a pair of upper and lower slider holders (11, 12) with a locking pawl (S-4) held in a releasing position. With the insertion of the fastener chain, the front surface of the flange portion (S-1) is freed from engagement with the lower holder (12) to enable passage of the fastener chain (C) through the slider (S). The slider (S) is still held from three different directions by the holders (11, 12) so that in spite of a unique or odd shape of the slider (S), the fastener chain (C) can smoothly be threaded through the slider (S). The slider inserting apparatus (1) is preferably combined with a chain-reversing apparatus (3) having element-reversing grooves (31b, 32b), in which instance the top stop applying process and the slider inserting process can be carried out continuously on one and the same processing machine.

As it is intermittently supplied, a blank wire (W) having a generally Y-shape cross section is cut into slices of a predetermined thickness by a cutting punch (10), which is fixed to the frame, and a coacting cutting die (2), which is reciprocatingly movable in the cutting direction. Then a bulge is formed on the head portion of the cut coupling element by a bulge formign die, which is connected with a forward end in stroke direction of the cutting die (2), and a coacting bulge forming punch (8), which is movable upwardly and downwardly. The cutting punch (2) is equipped with preventing means (11) on the upper side of the end of a blade (10a) for preventing the cut coupling element from jumping up from the blade (10a) during the cutting, so that a bulge can be formed on the head portion reliably, without giving any damage to peripheral equipments.
