From a reaction mixture obtained by reaction of sucrose and a fatty acid alkyl ester in the presence of a catalyst, a purified sucrose fatty acid ester is prepared without using organic solvents for purification by adding water to the reaction mixture and subjecting the resulting aqueous solution to ultrafiltration, thereby removing the unreacted sucrose, the catalyst or a salt derived from the catalyst, and the volatile component used as the reaction medium together with water. A powder of the purified sucrose fatty acid ester is easily, economically and safely prepared by subjecting the aqueous solution remaining in the ultrafiltration to reverse osmosis and spray-drying the resulting concentrate.

This invention relates to a dispersing agent for use in dispersing a finely divided solid powder in a nonaqueous dispersion medium and a dispersion prepared by using the dispersing agent. The dispersing agent of this invention is a low acid value lanolin fatty acid and/or a salt of the same. By means of this dispersing agent, there can be easily obtained a homogeneous and stable nonaqueous dispersion from which the incorporated solid particles will not separate out or settle even on prolonged standing. Therefore, this dispersing agent can be used advantageously in a broad range of applications such as coatings, dyes, pigments, inks, fuels, lubricating materials and so on.

The invention relates to a method of producing imide bond-containing compounds and flame retardants comprising such compounds. The method comprises reacting an acid anhydride with an isocyanate compound in an inert solvent in the presence of a tertiary amine as catalyst. The imide bond-containing compounds thus obtained provide flammable substances with good flame resistance and at the same time themselves have good heat resistance and weather resistance. Therefore, the flame retardants comprising such compounds have a wide field of application.

Provided are a two-liquid curable composition for forming a thermoplastic matrix resin, the two-liquid curable composition containing an active hydrogen component containing an alkylthio group-containing aromatic diamine (A) and a diisocyanate component containing at least one kind of diisocyanate (B) selected from the group consisting of aliphatic diisocyanates, alicyclic diisocyanates, and modified forms of aliphatic diisocyanates and alicyclic diisocyanates, a matrix resin for a fiber-reinforced composite material, the matrix resin being a thermoplastic resin containing a reaction product of the active hydrogen component and the diisocyanate component, and a fiber-reinforced composite material containing the matrix resin and reinforcing fiber.
