Aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic polyisocyanates containing allophanate groups are produced by reacting (a) a di- and/or polyisocyanate with aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic isocyanate groups with (b) a hydroxy compound at a temperature of at least 150°C for no more than 90 minutes and then rapidly cooling the reaction mixture to a temperature of less than 100°C. It is preferred that the reaction be carried out in the absence of oxygen. The products thus obtained are virtually colorless and have a relatively low viscosity and excellent storage stability.

The present invention is directed to a process for the production of optionally cellular, polyurethane elastomer moldings or optionally cellular, rigid structural polyurethanes by reacting a reaction mixture containing i) a polyisocyanate, ii) a high molecular weight polymer having at least two isocyanate-reactive groups and having a molecular weight of 400 to about 10,000, iii) about 5 to 50% by weight, based on the weight of component (ii) of a chain-extender having at least two isocyanate-reactive groups and iv) about 0.05 to 10 weight percent, based on the weight of components (ii) and (iii), of a salt based on a carboxy functional siloxane and an amidine group-containing compound of the formula wherein R₁, R₂ and R₃ are straight or branched, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon chains having up to 30 carbon atoms which may optionally be substituted by ether groups, ester groups, amide groups or amidine groups and may optionally be terminated by isocyanate-reactive groups such as hydroxyl or amino groups, R₄ corresponds to the definition of R₁, R₂ and R₃, but may additionally represent an aromatic substituent having 6 to 15 carbon atoms or may represent the group -NR₂R₃ and R₁, R₂, R₃ and R₄ may, with one or both of the amidine nitrogen, also form a heterocyclic ring. The present invention is directed to a thermoplastic molding composition comprising a polycarbonate resin and a pigmenting amount of black iron oxide. The invention is predicated on the surprising findings that this composition yields stable, streaking-free molded articles. A preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a flame retarding agent and iron oxide based pigment selected from the group consisting of black iron oxide and red iron oxide, said flame retarding agent comprising polytetrafluoroethylene; the composition is characterized in that it is streaking-free and in that its flammability rating is at least 5V-3,2 mm in accordance with UL-94.

The present invention is directed to stable, aqueous dispersions of polyurethane-ureas which are formed by
a) preparing isocyanate-terminated prepolymers containing about 5 to 190 milliequivalents per 100 grams of polyurethane-urea of chemically incorporated potential anionic groups and/or anionic groups and up to about 10% by weight, based on the weight of the polyurethane-urea, of lateral and/or terminal hydrophilic chains containing ethylene oxide units, b) converting a sufficient amount of the potential anionic groups to anionic groups either before, during or after preparing the prepolymer such that the blend of step (c) can be stably dispersed in water, wherein at least about 50% of the counterions of the anionic groups are derived from volatile organic compounds, c) blending said prepolymer either before, during or after step (b) with an epoxy resin which is not dispersible in water and contains at least one epoxide group, such that the equivalent ratio of potential anionic groups and anionic groups having counterions derived from volatile organic compounds to epoxide groups, is about 0.2 to 20.0, d) dispersing the blend of prepolymer and epoxy resin in water and e) chain extending said dispersed blend with a polyamine having an average functionality of about 2.0 to 6.0 in an amount sufficient to provide a ratio of amino groups to isocyanate groups of about 0.6:1.0 to 1.0:1.0.
The present invention is also directed to the use of the aqueous polyurethane-urea dispersions for the production of coated substrates having improved humidity resistance.
