摘要： A tracheostomy assembly has an obturator 2 with two resilient catches 30 at its machine end extending along the outside of a coupling 12 on the machine end of the tracheostomy tube 1 and engaging lips 14 on the coupling. This prevents the obturator 2 being displaced rearwardly. The obturator 2 can be disengaged from the tube 1 by twisting it relative to the tube.

摘要： A very compact silicon fabrication line has a number of process cells 20 to 25 all contained within a common outer enclosure 1. A semiconductor wafer 70 is loaded into the enclosure 1 through an air lock 10 and is mounted on a cap 56 supported under a carriage 80 movable along a rail 90 extending along the enclosure 1 between the different process cells 20 to 25. The cap 56 is lowered into sealing engagement with the open top 53, 54 of a cell 20 to 25 during each process.

摘要： A laryngeal mask assembly has a mask portion 13 of elliptical shape formed by a mount 15 and an inflatable member 16 attached to the mount. The inflatable member 16 is formed by heat bonding together opposite walls 31 and 32 of a flat balloon 30 and at the same time cutting an aperture 26 through the walls, so as to form a central web 25 within an outer inflatable ring 24. The central web 25 is attached to a concave surface 19 on the forward surface of the mount 15 with the aperture 26 in the web aligned with an opening 22 in the mount.

摘要： A spinal-epidural needle assembly has a rearwardly-extending sleeve 16 on the epidural needle 1 that has a series of circumferentially-extending ribs 22 on its outer surface. The spinal needle has a collar 32 extending forwardly from its hub 31 and slidable along outside of the sleeve 16 of the epidural needle. The collar 32 has a small elastomeric pad 33 on its inner surface, which is slidable along a smooth region 20 to one side of the ribbed region 21. The spinal needle 2 is locked longitudinally relative to the epidural needle 1 by twisting its collar 32 so that the elastomeric pad 33 slides laterally over the ribbed region 21 with the ribs 22 gripping into the pad.

摘要： A sterilizer has an autoclave 1 within which is placed a sealed, non-porous bag 2 or box 50 containing an instrument 3 to be sterilized and a quantity of water or other liquid 22. When the temperature and pressure in the autoclave are raised, this raises the temperature and pressure of the container 2 and its contents sufficiently to effect sterilization, without any risk of contaminating the interior of the autoclave. The instrument 3 can be removed from the container and resterilized in the autoclave in the normal way, if desired.

摘要： A fluorescent discharge lamp 1 has two glow mode electrodes 15 and 16 wound around it in a helical fashion. One circuit 21 drives the main electrodes 10 and 11 at opposite ends of the lamp at high levels of brightness. Another circuit 22 drives the glow mode electrodes 15 and 16 at low levels of brightness, at about 10MHz. At intermediate levels of brightness, both the main electrodes 10 and 11 and the glow mode electrodes 15 and 16 are driven, the two sets of electrodes being driven for alternate on and off periods with the glow mode electrodes being on when the main electrodes are off and the glow mode electrodes being off when the main electrodes are on.
