There is provided a process for the capture and sequestration of carbon dioxide that would otherwise enter the atmosphere and contribute to global warming and other problems. CO2 capture is accomplished by reacting carbon dioxide in flue gas with an alkali metal carbonate, or a metal oxide, particularly containing an alkaline earth metal or iron, to form a carbonate salt. A preferred carbonate for CO2 capture is a dilute aqueous solution of additive-free (Na2CO3). Other carbonates include (K2CO3) or other metal ion that can produce both a carbonate and a bicarbonate salt. Examples of suitable metal oxides include several alkaline earths including CaO and MgO. The captured CO2 is preferably sequestered using any available mineral or industrial waste that contains calcium magnesium or iron in non-carbonate forms, or iron in the Fe+2 oxidation state.

The cleaning equipment comprises means for bleeding off part of the polluted scrubber fluid from the scrubber fluid loop (9), a disc stack centrifugal (12') separator for separating a pollutant phase and a cleaned scrubber fluid from said part. The separator comprises a rotor (13') enclosing a separation space (14') with a stack of separating discs (15'), a separator inlet (11') for said part extending into said separating space, a first separator outlet (17') for cleaned scrubber fluid extending from said separating space (14'), and a second separator outlet for the pollutant phase extending from said separating space. A process for the separation of carbon dioxide from gas mixtures is disclosed in which a metal oxide sorbent, which is used to capture and release carbon dioxide, is recycled. The process incorporates the regeneration of the carbon dioxide capture capacity of the metal oxide to maintain a high capture capacity over many cycles. The regeneration involves hydrating the metal oxide and then heating the resulting metal hydroxide under a gas atmosphere that is effective to suppress the dehydration of the hydroxide so that dehydration occurs at an elevated temperature. The regeneration may also be used independently from the carbon dioxide separation process to produce, from a metal hydroxide, a metal oxide having an enhanced resistance to attrition and fragmentation.

The invention relates to a method and a device for separating carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) from stack, sludge, and/or exhaust gases. The invention is based on the object of developing a method and a device for separating CO 2 from stack, sludge, and/or exhaust gases that can be carried out in a rapid, efficient, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly manner. Accordingly, the method according to the invention for separating carbon dioxide from stack, sludge, and/or exhaust gases by means of absorption and subsequent desorption from an absorption agent characterized in that the absorption agent enriched with CO 2 is subjected to an ultrasonic treatment at a temperature below 80°C, preferably between 40 and 79°C, following the absorption of CO 2 . The device according to the invention for separating carbon dioxide from stack, sludge, and/or exhaust gases by means of an absorption and a subsequent desorption from an absorption agent comprises an absorber (10) for transferring the CO 2 of the waste, sludge, and/or exhaust gases into the absorption agent, and a desorber (30) for a subsequent desorption of the CO 2 , wherein the desorber (30) has an ultrasonic source (31), which is disposed such that the emitted sound energy of the ultrasonic source (31) acts upon the absorption agent being enriched with CO2 such that CO2 is desorbed at a temperature below 80°C, preferably between 40 and 79°C.
