A card retention assembly (10) includes a shield (12) and a retraction mechanism (14). The shield (12) is essentially non-transmissive of radio frequency signals and encloses a card receptacle (22) which retains an RFID card (20) when the retraction mechanism (14) is in a retracted position. The retraction mechanism (14) includes a spool and a retention line (16) connectable to the RFID card (20) and connected to the spool. Manually withdrawing the RFID card (20) from the card receptacle (22) causes the retention line (16) to unwind from the spool and transitions the retraction mechanism (14) from the retracted position to an extended position. The retraction mechanism (14) is biased to the retracted position causing the retention line to wind back onto the spool and automatically returning the RFID card back to the card receptacle (22) when the RFID card (20) is manually released. Radio frequency communication between the RFID card (20) and a proximal card reader is prevented when the RFID card (20) is within the card receptacle (22) and is permitted when the RFID card (20) is outside the card receptacle (22).

A projection engageable with a recess provided to the card-like electronic device so as to hold the card-like electronic device is formed in the device loading cavity. Since such a holder holds the card-like electronic device, the holder can prevent the card-like electronic device from being lost more reliably than when the card-like electronic device is not held in the holder and can prevent dust, particles, and water droplets from adhering to the card-like electronic device.

The card holder comprises a rectangular or generally rectangular base plate, raised first side-edges extending along respective long sides of said base plate, raised second side-edges extending along respective short sides of the base plate, a projection on each of the raised first side-edges, said projections extending in over the base plate and towards each other from that edge surface of respective first side-edges which faces away from the base plate. The raised second side-edges and the short sides of the base plate include recesses that enable a card placed in said card holder to be gripped on each short side of the card holder, these recesses dividing the raised second side-edges into two laterally related part-edges. The arrangement also includes means for preventing a magnetic strip on a card from becoming worn as a result of inserting and removing the card into and out of the card holder. These means include a bevelled surface on respective part-edges that face away from the base plate and slope towards the base plate and towards the recess.

Diese Probleme werden erfindungsgemäß durch eine Wertkartenmappe (12) gelöst, die nur bei korrekter Eingabe einer Geheiminformation geöffnet werden kann und dann im Innern die zu einer gerade entnommenen Wertkarte (15) abgespeicherte PIN-Nummer vorübergehend anzeigt, so daß der Nutzer sich lediglich noch die Geheimnummer seiner Kartenmappe (12) merken muß. Bei unautorisierten Öffnungsversuchen an der Mappe (12) werden alle eingespeicherten PIN-Nummern gelöscht. Nur nach autorisiertem Öffnen der Mappe (12) können manuell über eine Tastatur (22) oder im Block über eine Schnittstelle (21) im Speicherregister (17) den Kartensteckpositionen im Innern der Mappe (12) neue PIN-Nummern zugeordnet werden.
