    摘要: A method for preparing tetrabromobenzoate ester from a tetrabromophthalic anhydride including the steps of reacting the tetrabromophthalic anhydride with a catalyst and an alcohol at a temperature that favors partial esterification over complete esterification of the tetrabromophthalic anhydride to form a tetrabromophthalate half-ester reaction mixture; and feeding the half-ester reaction mixture to at least one reactor having and maintaining a temperature that favors decarboxylation over esterification to produce a tetrabromobenzoate ester-containing product. The temperature favoring partial esterification of the tetrabromophthalic anhydride is between about 70°C and 130°C. The temperature favoring decarboxylation over esterification is between about 190°C and 205°C. The tetrabromobenzoate ester-containing product comprises at least about 85% tetrabromobensoate ester. The at least one reactor may include two or more reactors connected to one another in series.

    摘要: A water-scavenging solvent, such a polyphosphoric acid, can be used for the synthesis of cyclopentyl 2-thienyl ketone by the direct acylation of cyclopentanecarboxylic acid without first reacting the cyclopentanecarboxylic acid with thionylchloride to form the acid chloride, while achieving new and unexpected yields. A tiletamine-free base can be made from the cyclopentyl 2-thienyl ketone with a halide in the presence of a solvent for the cyclopentyl 2-thienyl ketone to form a halogenated cyclopentane 2-thienyl ketone; aminating the halogenated cyclopentane 2-thienyl ketone by reaction with an amine; and subjecting the reaction product to thermal rearrangement, in a suitable solvent, and at a sufficient temperature to form tiletamine free base. Each step for the formation of tiletamine free base can be accomplished using the same solvent, e.g., dichlorobenzene so that intermediates need not be isolated between reactions.

    摘要: The present invention provides novel esters synthesized from organic alcohols and tetrahalophthalic anydride or tetrahalophthalic acid, processes to make such esters, and novel uses of these esters. The invention provides three Groups of dialkyltetrahalophthalate compositions which exhibit surprisingly advantageous features, including excellent plasticizing functionality and low smoke generation. The esters may be symmetrical, in that both alcohols of the ester are the same, or they may be unsymmetrical with both alcohols of the derived phthalate ester different, or they may be mixtures of symmetrical and unsymmetrical esters. Inventive esters are useful as flame-retardant plasticizers in PVC or other polymeric systems.
