摘要: A two-stage steam condenser (70) prevents freezing from occurring in its tube rows (80,102) by continual purging of the tube rows. Such continual purging prevents any steam from back-flowing into a tube row (80,102) thereby eliminating the possibility that condensate or noncondensable gases will become trapped therein. This is achieved by isolating each of the tube rows (102) in the second stage (92) of the condenser (70) so that the pressure of one tube row is not exposed to the pressure occurring in another adjacent tube row. The condensate collected in the various tube rows (102) of this second stage (92) is delivered to a common drain pot (114) that is hydraulically balanced to accommodate the various pressures in these tube rows (102). Such hydraulic balancing also prevents any back-flowing from occurring from one tube row (102) into another. Furthermore, in this second stage (92) of the steam condenser (70), the steam (88) and resulting condensate both flow concurrently downward while any noncondensable gases (94) are vented counter-currently upward against such steam and condensate flow.

摘要: A heat pipe (10) has an elliptical cross-section. Heat exchange fins (60) are mounted to the heat pipe (10) at the condenser end (50). The fins (60) are galvanized on the heat pipe (10). Spacer pins (65) can be used to support and space the heat exchange fins (60) from each other. Internal spacers can be provided within the heat pipe (10) to add support to the heat pipe structure for longer heat pipes.

摘要: A seal joint is for an arrangement for separating a gas and liquid mixture having a vessel with an inlet for entry of the gas and liquid mixture and an outlet for exit of a separated gas, and a centrifugal separation cyclone in the vessel for centrifugally separating the gas from the mixture. The joint requires the vessel to have an internal vessel flange (10) defining a flange opening (12). An inlet tube (14) extends into the flange opening. A first retaining ring (16) having a first outer ring (18) which engages the flange, also has a first inner ring (20) portion extending around the inlet tube in the flange opening. A second retaining ring (22) has a second outer ring (24) engaged with the flange and a second inner ring (26) extending around the inlet tube in the flange opening. An O-ring (28) is engaged around the inlet tube and between the first and second inner rings and fastening bolts are use for fastening the first and second outer rings to the flange, around the flange opening for deforming the O-ring against the inlet tube.

摘要: A technique for moulding items, in particular hollow items, using resin transfer moulding, in such a manner that the resin (24) is more uniformly distributed about and along the moulding region (16) of the mould (12,14). This is accomplished by installing oppositely spaced groove (22) in the mould (12,14) and injecting resin (24) directly into these grooves (22). Upon such injection, the resin (24) travels along and fills the groove (22), by taking the path of least resistance, before such resin (24) is squeezed or forced out of a minute gap (50) between the moulding surfaces and into the moulding region (16) of the mould (12,14). As such resin (24) is being forcibly injected into the cloths (20) in the mould, a vent (42) permits any air displaced from the cloths (20) by the resin (24) to be released. Such resin injection and mould venting occurs until such time that no more air is vented and instead 100% resin (24) is being discharged from the mould (12,14). Upon this occurrence, further resin injection is curtailed and the resin (24) previously injected is allowed to harden and cure. A disposable pressure bag (18) distributes the moulding pressure created by the injected resin equally within the mould. Thus this pressure bag (18) enables a high quality void-free plastics laminate to be made.

摘要: An air-cooled steam condenser (30) also uses heat pipe technology so as to provide steam tubes that are freeze proof under any ambient conditions, and offering a simple approach to the management of noncondensable gases. Steam flows through the main condenser (32) with concurrent steam and condensate flow downwards. The heat transfer surface area and fan air flow are designed such that all of the steam does not completely condense, and steam vapour continuously exits each tube row. This continuous flow of steam vapour purges these tube rows of noncondensable gases. The excess steam flows into the lower header (34) to a secondary condenser section (36) that utilizes heat pipes (48). In the secondary condenser section (36), the excess steam condenses on the evaporator side external surface of the heat pipes (48). The noncondensable gases that remain in the lower header (34) are vented with an air removal system (52) similar to conventional condensers. Condensate in the lower header (34) is collected for reuse in the power generation cycle.

摘要: A heat exchanger tube (20) of elongate cross-section has an internally located tubular stiffener (26) which prevents deflection of the wall (17) of the tube (20) due to pressure differentials between the internal (30) and external (19) surfaces of the tube (20) while allowing flow of fluid between chambers at areas on opposite sides of the tubular stiffener (26) inside the tube (20) through apertures (32) in the walls of the tubular stiffener (26). The heat exchanger tube (20) can have an elliptical, oval or flat cross-section and the internal tubular stiffener (26) can have a variety of cross-sectional configurations having uniform or non-uniform shapes.

摘要: A protection element (20) containing a spring steel strip (22) is bent to have a tighter curvature than the curvature at the leading edge of a fan blade (10). The protection element 20 is then fixed to the leading edge of the fan blade (10) over an area of maximum erosion. Rubber or another elastomer (24) can be extruded over the strip (22) before or after it is fixed to the fan blade (10) or the strip (22) can incorporate an outer hardened layer to resist erosion. Attachment of the strip (22) to the blade (10) is advantageously accomplished using rivets (30) or screws at spaced locations along the blade (10) at the leading edge of the blade (10).
