A mixing chamber (7) is within the body (1) and is defined by a perimeter wall member (8) that houses a slide valve (9) which slidably moves in the mixing chamber so as to control the opening and closing of the inlets to the mixing chamber (7). A thermostatic element (18) is mounted to control motion of the slide valve (9). A partition (10) is mounted in the mixing chamber (7) between the inlets. A cross passage (11) allows water from one inlet to pass the partition toward the discharge outlet (4). The mixing chamber has an inclined surface (14) to direct water from the other inlet toward the cross passage to promote mixing of the hot and cold water.

The packing washer (9) is thus compressed axially and establishes a frictional hold between the top wall (41) and bottom wall (42) of the cavity and the axially extending surface of the second mobile part (13). The diameter of the cavity is greater than the diameter of the compressed ring-shaped packing washer (9) thereby forming a ring-shaped space or chamber between the washer (9) and the side wall (40). This ring-shaped space communicates with a water holding area of the mixing valve through a groove (43) in the bottom wall (42) of the cavity.

The process comprises forming an assembly comprised of a fiber cementboard core having superimposed on at least one surface thereof at least one intermediate resin impregnated paper sheet and a decorative resin impregnated paper sheet, and subjecting said assembly to a temperature of at least about 100 °C and a pressure of at least about 500 psi for a time effective to laminate said assembly.

The slots (14a) are positioned to be at least partially covered by the slide (9) when the slide (9) is next to the closed position thus producing a total or partial closure device.
