    摘要: A pre-boot security controller in an electronic device is energized even though a power subsystem does not energize operation of a digital computer in the device. The security controller stores supervisor and user passwords in a nonvolatile password memory for comparison with a password entered using a security keypad. Upon entry of a matching password, the security controller enables the power subsystem to energize operation of the digital computer, and the security controller transitions from a security to an application operating mode. In the application operating mode, the pre-boot security controller preserves data about pressings of the security keypad. A computer program executed by the digital computer may respond to recorded keypad pressing by initiating execution of a specific application computer program that a user associates with a specific key on the security keypad.

    摘要: A secure personal identification entry system provides an integrated approach to secure identification data entry. A controller resides in a secure PIN smart card keyboard that also contains a numeric keypad and a smart card reader and allows the numeric keypad to server two purposes: the first as a normal keypad in a keyboard and the second as a secure PIN entry keypad. The user inserts his smart card, with his PIN number information stored in the smart card's memory, into the smart card reader. An application program running on a PC that requires secure identification from the user requests that the user enter his PIN number using the keypad on the keyboard. The controller receives the PIN request and switches the keypad from normal mode to PIN entry mode. The keypad is switched to be dedicated to PIN entry and communicates with the controller. The user enters his PIN number into the keypad. The controller receives the PIN number and forwards the PIN number to the smart card. The smart card validates the PIN number and sends a pass/fail indicator back to the controller. The controller forwards the pass/fail indication to the PC. Another preferred embodiment of the invention connects a biometric device to the keyboard from which the controller obtains a user's biometric identification information.

In one embodiment the present invention includes a ballast controller (12) that includes filament heating circuitry (26) and dimming circuitry. The filament heating circuitry (26) may include preheat dimming circuits which preheat the filaments for a predetermined time period prior to striking the lamp, and steady-state heating circuitry (28) that continually heats the filaments during steady state operation of the lamp (20). The steady state heating circuitry (28) may be adapted to heat the filaments inversely proportional to the dim desired value of the lamp (20). The dimming circuitry may include conventional analog dimming and/or burst mode dimming to define a wide range of dimming characteristics for the lamp.

    摘要: A programmable after-package, on-chip reference voltage trim circuit for an integrated circuit having a plurality of programmable trim cells generating a programmed sequence. A converter is provided to convert the bit sequence into a trim current. The trim current is added to an initial value of a reference voltage to be trimmed, as generated by the integrated circuit. Once the correct value of the trim current is determined, isolation circuitry is programmed to isolate the trim circuitry from the remainder of the IC, thereby freeing the logic and package pins associated with the IC for use by users of the IC. The preferred trim circuitry includes fuses which are blown in accordance with a bit value supplied to the trim cell to permanently fix a trim current value, once a best fit value is determined.
