    摘要： A bearded needle (10) comprises a needle shank (10a) whose tip is shaped into a thin shank portion (10b) by tapering down the thickness of the needle shank (10a). The thin shank portion (10b) has a conical projection portion (12) at the extremity thereof. The conical projection portion (12) has a hooking tip portion (14) to form a hooking portion (13) at the tip of the needle shank (10a). The hooking portion (13) has a substantially U-shaped bottom portion (11) that hooks and holds a thread (S), and includes sloping surfaces (16) each inclining toward an outer edge (14a) of the hooking tip portion (14). The sloping surfaces (16) each extend from the bottom portion (11) over both the conical projection portion (12) and the hooking tip portion (14).

    摘要： A sewing machine needle is manufactured by die-pressing the whole needle trunk portion without causing burrs on the needle trunk. A needle material (10) has its needle trunk (14, 16) drawn into two stages, and further, a thin portion (22) previously formed to form a scraped-out portion above a needle hole. By die-pressing, the opposite side portions of a needle groove (28) are extended to a predetermined angle, and the scraped-out portion (40) of a desirable shape and a needle hole portion (33) are formed. The needle thus obtained has sufficiently high rigidity as a whole and a space between the needle trunk and a sewing thread is large, so that sewing work can be stably carried out and operations at high speed can be performed.

Over a predetermined length (M) from the straight profile portion (1 L ) toward the needle point (5), the profile of the blade (1) is a flat cross-section in which the thickness (H) thereof in the direction in which the needle eye (2) extends is larger than the width (W) thereof in the direction orthogonal to the direction in which the needle eye (2) extends. In a needle point portion (1 N ) following the flat cross-section portion (1 M ) and extending to the needle point (5), the blade (1) has a sectional shape of a perfect circle.
