Said dispersion has a pH of at least 7 and comprises an organic acid with at least three acid functions of which the third pK is at most 10 or a salt of said acid with ammonia or an amine. Said composition has an improved water content and mechanical properties which improve throughout the life thereof or the duration of the presence thereof on the substrate for protection.

The invention relates to a precursor compound of an alkaline earth metal or a rare earth metal aluminate of formula: a(M1O).b(MgO).c(AI2O3) or a(M2O1.5).b(MgO).c(AI2O3), where M1 = an alkaline earth metal and M2 = yttrium or a combination of cerium and terbium and a, b et c are either whole numbers or not and obey the relationships: 0.25 = a = 4; 0 = b = 2 et 0.5 = c = 9, crystallized in the form of a transition alumina comprising essentially spherical and chemically homogeneous particles. Said particles have pores the average diameter of which is less than 10 nm. The above is obtained by a method in which a liquid mixture is formed comprising compounds of aluminium and other elements present in the composition of the precursor, said mixture is dried by atomisation and the dried product calcinated at a temperature between 700°C and 950°C inclusive. An alkaline earth metal or a rare earth metal aluminate is obtained by subsequent calcination of the product obtained.

The invention relates to a colloidal dispersion of a rare earth perovskite structured compound of formula LnBO3 (1) wherein Ln is at least one rare earth other than une cerium alone and B is at least one element selected from the group including elements whose atomic number is 22 -31, 40 - 51, 73 - 83 and aluminium. The dispersion is obtained by reacting a perovskite of formula (1), exhibiting elementary crystallites of a maximum of 500 nm with a monovalent acid having a pka ranging between 2.5 and 5.0; heating the mixture obtained at a temperature of 50 °C and 200 °C; and purification, if necessary, of the reactional medium thus obtained. The dispersion according to the invention can be used in the production of catalysts.

The invention relates to an exfoliate structured zirconium phosphate characterized in that it is embodied in the form of a gel containing a maximum 1000 ppm organic compounds or a gel devoid of organic compounds which are chemically linked to phosphate. Said phosphate is obtained by a method wherein an aqueous dispersion is formed from a crystallized zirconium phosphate; a quantity of sodium compound is added to said dispersion whereby the NA/P ratio is more than 0.5; an acid is added in order to obtain a gel or a solid compound which is placed once more in water and which results in a gel. The phosphate can be used in the preparation of macromolecular-material-based compositions in order to improve the properties thereof.

The invention relates to a method of preparing a block copolymer, the first block of which is a polymer or a copolymer having at least one diene and the second block of which is a polymer with a polar monomer. The inventive method is characterised in that: first, the polymerisation or the copolymerisation of the first block is carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising the product of the reaction of a rare earth alcoholate and an alkylating agent selected from among organolithiums, organomagnesiums, organozincs, organoaluminiums and borons; and, secondly, the copolymerisation of the polar monomer is performed with the first block in the presence of the same catalyst. The invention also relates to a block copolymer consisting of a first block comprising a polmyer or a linear copolymer having at least one diene and a second block comprising a polymer presenting several hydroxy, epoxy and/or alkoxysilyl functions. Said copolymers can be used as compatibilisers in an elastomer matrix comprising a mineral filler.

The inventive composition, according to a first embodiment, consists essentially of a cerium oxide and a zirconium oxide in an atomic ratio Ce/Zr of at least 1. According to a second embodiment, said composition is based on cerium oxide, zirconium oxide with an atomic ratio Ce/Zr of at least 1 and at least one rare earth oxide other than cerium. After calcination at 1100 °C, said composition has a specific surface of at least 9 m2/g in the first embodiment and at least 19 m2/g in the second embodiment. The inventive composition can be used as a catalyst especially for the treatment of waste gases from internal combustion engines.
