The invention concerns an aqueous colloidal dispersion based on at least a lanthanide compound and a complex-forming agent having a pK (cologarithm of the dissociation constant of the complex formed by the complex-forming agent and the lanthanide cation) higher than 2.5. Said dispersion can further comprise a compound of at least an element selected among the groups IVa, Va, VIa, VIIa, VIII, Ib, and IIb of the periodic table. The method for preparing the dispersion consists in starting with an aqueous mixture comprising at least a lanthanide salt, optionally a salt of one said element, and the complex-forming agent; adding a base to the resulting mixture and heating the mixture, whereby the dispersion is obtained. The dispersion can be used on a substrate as anticorrosive agent, in a cosmetic composition, in catalysis, for preparing polymer films, in lubricants or in ceramics.

The invention relates to a mesostructural material, preferably thermally stable, comprising a mineral phase within which nano-scale particles of a metallic oxide are dispersed, selected from a cerium, zirconium, titanium or rare earth metal oxide other than that of cerium. Said oxide comprises at least one metallic element M in a cationic form in a solid solution within the crystalline structure of said oxide. The invention relates to a colloidal dispersion of a rare earth perovskite structured compound of formula LnBO3 (1) wherein Ln is at least one rare earth other than une cerium alone and B is at least one element selected from the group including elements whose atomic number is 22 -31, 40 - 51, 73 - 83 and aluminium. The dispersion is obtained by reacting a perovskite of formula (1), exhibiting elementary crystallites of a maximum of 500 nm with a monovalent acid having a pka ranging between 2.5 and 5.0; heating the mixture obtained at a temperature of 50 °C and 200 °C; and purification, if necessary, of the reactional medium thus obtained. The dispersion according to the invention can be used in the production of catalysts.

The invention relates to a colloidal dispersion comprising rhabdophane-structured rare-earth phosphate particles (Ln) and a polyphosphate. Said dispersion is prepared by a method consisting in forming a medium comprising at least one type of rare-earth salt and a poly phosphate in such quantities that the P/Ln ratio is equal to or higher than 3, in heating the thus obtained medium and in removing residual salts, thereby obtaining said dispersion. Said invention also relates to a transparent luminescent material which is obtainable from said dispersion and based on the rare-earth phosphate particles and a polyphosphate and whose P/Ln ratio is higher than 1, to a luminescent system comprising said material and to an excitation source.

The inventive dispersion can be used as combustion additive in fuels or liquid fuels.

When the rare earth is cerium and lanthanum, the particles have an average size of not more than 20 nm. The dispersions can have a colloid agglomeration rate of less than 40 %. Said dispersion can be prepared by forming an aqueous mixture comprising at least a rare earth salt and the complexing agent or the monovalent acid anion, adding to the resulting mixture a base of phosphate ions, heating the resulting medium, thereby obtaining a precipitate which is re-dispersed in water.
