A novel cerium substituted perovskite material is disclosed which may be used as an electrode, current collector or membrane in an electrochemical device such as a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) or an oxygen generator. The novel material may be provided as a composite material if desired. It has been found that examples of this material and its composites exhibit greatly improved electrochemical and electronic performance when used as a cathode material, current collector, membrane or the like in an electrochemical device such as a fuel cell or oxygen generator for example.

Thermostable metal oxide catalysts of the general formula AB 1-x M x O 3-δ having a perovskite crystal structure and the process of making the same. A and B are cations forming refractory oxides. M is a relatively non-volatile active cation and acts as a doping of site B in an amount of about 0.01 to about 0.30. Cations A, B and M are so chosen as to assure a deficiency in oxygen represented by δ of at least 0.02. The catalysts according to the present invention show good catalytic properties even after aging at temperatures above 1300 °C.

An axial lattice constant c Å of the metal hydroxide satisfies: 0.363x + 4.2 ≤ c ≤ 0.363x + 4.4, where, based on a total molar mass of a metal element in the metal hydroxide, a molar percentage of the Ni element in the metal hydroxide is x. The lattice constant c of the metal hydroxide falls within a specified value range. The positive electrode material prepared from the metal hydroxide serving as a precursor is of excellent structural stability in a charging and discharging environment, and improves the cycle performance, high-temperature performance, and safety performance of lithium-ion batteries.

A conductive paste for connecting thermoelectric conversion material characterized by containing a specific oxide powder and at least one conductive metal powder selected from a group of gold, silver, platinum and an alloy containing at least one of these metals. By connecting a thermoelectric conversion material to a conductive substrate using the conductive paste, an optimum conductivity is given to the connecting portion of a thermoelectric conversion device. Further, it is possible to approximate the thermal expansion coefficient of the connecting portion to that of the thermoelectric conversion material. Therefore, even when power generation at high temperature is repeated, separation of the connecting portion is prevented, and the favorable thermoelectric conversion performance can be maintained.
