摘要: Apparatus for combining an auxiliary image and a main image includes a source of a main image video signal and a source of samples representing an auxiliary image video signal having successive fields. A quincunx subsampler is coupled to the auxiliary image sample source and subsamples the auxiliary image samples in either a first sample pattern in which samples are taken at a first set of horizontal locations, or a second sample pattern in which samples are taken at a second set of horizontal locations substantially midway between the first set, all in response to a control signal. A signal combiner is coupled to the quincunx subsampler and the main image signal source, and combines the main image signal and a signal representing the quincunx subsampled auxiliary image samples to generate a signal representing a combine image of the main and auxiliary images. A control circuit generates the quincunx subsampler control signal so that the quincunx subsampler takes samples in one of the sample patterns at the beginning of each auxiliary image video signal field, and in the other sample pattern after a switch time calculated so that the quincunx subsampled auxiliary image samples in the combined image all are taken by the same sample pattern.

摘要: A system for processing auxiliary video information, such as closed caption information, includes capability for detecting invalid parity errors that may be created by video signal distortion effects caused by sync suppression video signal scrambling. The sync suppression distortion does not affect the video display but may modify the parity bit of the second of two closed caption characters in each occurrence of line 21 of field 1 causing invalid parity errors. Parity errors in the first character, which is unaffected by the sync suppression distortion, indicate whether valid parity errors exist in the second character. If no parity errors occur in the first character, parity errors that occur in the second character are considered to be invalid.

摘要: For motion compensated interpolation (MCI) with sub-pixel accuracy the missing pixels need to be generated or interpolated prior to the motion compensation. The required pixel values (P, Q, R, S) are stored using line and pixel delays (DHV). A switch matrix selects in response to a motion vector such stored pixels which are currently needed for the processing. In order to avoid sub-pixel MCI, the interpolation (INT) is carried out prior to the motion compensation. Thus, the input data rate of the motion compensation circuitry is twice then that of the interpolation circuitry. The resulting hardware complexity is high. The invention leads to a reduced amount of stored data for performing a sub-pixel MCI using a simple switch matrix (SM), only. A special arrangement of delays (DH) storing pixel values needed for the processing is used to extend the existing delay array (DHV). Because an increased number of pixels involved is used, an improved sub-pixel MCI is achieved. This is possible due to the fact that such delay extension does not affect significantly the decoded picture quality even if adjacent motion vectors do not match exactly to the current motion vector. The invention can be used in every system making use of MCI, especially in decoders of coding systems based on spatio-temporal subsampling and motion compensation. Motion compensation and interpolation are achieved simultaneously at the clock frequency of the input data stream.

摘要: A television display system employing edge brightness flicker reduction by modulation of the vertical deflection signal has digital control words for modulation polarity (D) and magnitude (S). These digital words are coupled to an amplifier (900) and converted to a bipolar analog signal (Bp). The bipolar analog signal (Bp) comprises values in a first and second range. Signals in the first range produce vertical deflection modulation in a first direction and signals in the second range produce vertical deflection modulation in the opposite direction.

摘要: It is an object of the present invention to drive a radiation emitting device, such as a LED, optimally in dependence on the value of a carrier frequency of a signal to be transmitted. According to the present invention the value of a current which is provided to the radiation emitting element is controlled in dependence on the value of the carrier frequency. Using a LED, the current value is increased with decreasing duration of current flow. The invention can be used e.g. for remote commanders suitable for controlling two or more devices.
