An object of the invention is to provide a scanning device for storage media provided in a magazine-type container (1) having dense packaging where the storage media (25) are secured against damages even when they are removed from the container (1). According to the invention the disks (25) are coupled to trays (5) of the container (1). For playback the container (1) is inserted into a playback device (39), a tray (5) of the container (1) is moved into a playback position, a disk (25) is released from tray (5) and coupled to a mechadeck (44) for playback.

The object of the present invention is to simplify the structure of a device of this type. This object is achieved by virtue of the fact that detector elements (11, 21; 12, 22, ..., 18, 28) of different detector units (10, 20) are each connected to the evaluation unit (2) via a single line (31; 32; ...; 38). The device according to the invention is advantageously a device which can read from and/or write to not only optical recording media which correspond to a CD standard but also those which correspond to a DVD standard.

The object of the invention is to propose a device of this type which has the smallest possible unbalance even when exchangeable recording media are used. This object is achieved according to the invention by virtue of the fact that the unbalance compensation means is a centrifugal force generation means which generates a centrifugal force which is variable during operation. According to another aspect of the present invention, provision is made for the unbalance compensation means to be a positioning means for positioning the recording medium. The field of application of the invention includes, inter alia, devices for reading from and/or writing to optical recording media such as CD, CD-ROM, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM and the like.

The present invention relates to a device for reading from and/or writing to optical recording media (4), which has a tracking unit (13), a four-quadrant detector (5), two summation points (15, 16) and a phase comparator (20) for tracking in accordance with the differential phase detection method, and also two variable delay elements (26A, 26B) which can be set by a control unit (24). The object of the present invention is to propose a device of this type which has the best possible compensation of the error in the track error signal (DPD-TE) and thus in the tracking signal, which error is caused on account of the lens movement. For this purpose, according to the invention an interference signal generating unit (22) is present whose output is connected to the tracking unit (13) and to a first input of the control unit (24), the second input of which is connected to the output of the phase comparator (20). The present invention is suitable for devices for reading from and/or writing to optical recording media, such as CD, CDI, CD-ROM, DVD, CDR, magneto-optical recording media and the like.
